can I use my phone in New Zealand?
I will be in NZ (for a very few days) next week. I won't be taking a laptop but will have my phone with me (3 mobile). Is there any chance I will be able to use it to call home? I won't be making many local calls so there isn't much point in picking up a local PAYG, I'll just phone from the hotel. But it would be nice to speak the the kids a couple of times.

You should be able to use the phone if you are on pay monthly (they don't seem to allow roaming in NZ on pay as you go) but it wont be cheap! On Three it's currently £1.40 per min to make a call back to the UK and £0.90 per min to receive a call.
There is a full list of prices here... http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/International/Going_abroad_Pay_Monthly/Destination_Details?content_aid=1214306364761
Also, you may need to call them before you go to have any roaming bars lifted.
Enjoy your trip!0
