December Deals for the iPhone?

Hi everyone,

My very first thread-post ever - so please be kind :-) Apologies in advance if I get anything wrong...

I've been with 3 on an 18 month contract that finished a few weeks ago, with the worlds worst Sony Erricsson in existance. I paid £20 a month for 1100 mix and match texts (which I never went over). Despite the phone being appauling (an endless list of ridiculous faults), I found 3 quite rude and unhelpful on a number of occasions. Can't wait to leave...

I own a Mac and would LOVE an iPhone, because that way I can sync many things that I am dependent on my Mac for (my mail, iCal, music etc. and access the internet and have all the fun the iPhone offers!). I'm not a mega camera fan, but I suppose it would be useful seeing as I don't have a camera. I have a bit of a hectic lifestyle, so getting my e-mails and browsing the internet on the move would be a MASSIVE benefit.

My boyfriend is on Orange and has never had a problem with them, and seeing as I call him the most (around 200 minutes a month), I could use him as my 'magic number'. I'm also an avid cinema goer - so it all seems very ideal.

I'm probably going to pick the £35 a month contract (seeing is I never went over the 1100 contract with 3).

However, when trying to cancel my current contract with 3, she advised me to wait until December as all the companies will bring out great deals, so I could potentially save a lot of money...

So - I'm hoping for everyone's opinions - is this likely, will there be better deals in December, or was she just fobbing me off/should I just go ahead and buy now?

Also, is the insurance with orange, (£12 a month) worth it? I'm usually a very careful person, I'll be ever more careful with an iPhone! But - I'm wondering if insurance might be a necessary added peace of mind? However...£12 is a LOT.

Thanks everyone,

Lucy :D

  • Her suggestion of deals has done its job, you're still with them :)

It's just sales BS, you wont get a killer deal on an iPhone, it's just the network choice you have to make (which you've done), go get it now, and enjoy it!

when i threatened to leave 3 at the end of my contract, i was asked why, i said you don't do the iPhone, to which the guy on the end of the phone said we will be getting the iPhones in, but if you are unhappy then ask for your PAC code and go with orange, that way you keep the phone number, just a different supplier.
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

  • Thanks guys, I really appreciate your input. I felt she was probably just fobbing me off...

I'll be onto buying an iPhone quick quick then!

Was wondering on your opinions regarding insurance? Would it be wise to go with Orange, or could I just go with someone like CUSC for half the price!

Off topic...but from what you have said, if you called Orange yesterday, I'm absolutely convinced you spoke to me! I'm the only person who ever mentions alternative places for insurance!

Orange insurance is good in that the admin fee is low at £15 and that replacement is next day. Also you know what your getting with that insurance, not sure about other companies though...try looking for reviews.

You may wish to consider including your phone in your home insurance (which can also cover your phone outside of your home), or alternatively phone insurance through your bank. (eg Natwest off a £12 a month deal with covers phone and travel insurance and various other perks).

Also worth remembering that Orange has the superior 3G network compared to 3/O2
