You aren't, so don't try and imagine so
What if it had been submerged under water due to flooding ? *Then* you would have had a struggle finding some decent bread.
What if it had been taken over by terrorists who were blind and in wheelchairs ? Now that could have caused utter mayhem
What if you were pregnant with an alien baby and had to deliver it in the middle of this untidy store ? There may have been no hot water or towels, especially if they hadn't sorted the previous flooding...
But I do see your point. Not clearing up their rubbish is pathetic and can certainly cause a hazard to those who don't look where they are going.
At the end of the day, if you pay peanuts, expect monkeys!:p
We used to have a co op then it closed down after 6 months, so i guess that says it all,The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
I don't understand why the Co-op is still trading. It;s been rubbish for years. Everything they sel is more expensive than any other supermarket and is usually of inferior quality. The ones in town centres I can understand as it's convenient, but why people shop in the superstores is beyond me.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

The Co-Op staff I've encountered in my time give the worst customer service I've ever witnessed.
Lost my car keys once and went in on the off-chance I'd left them in there while I used the post office. Two staff members were having a chat and completely ignored me while I stood there for a good couple of minutes. One of them made eye contact and as I inhaled to ask if she'd seen my keys she just said really rudely 'don't talk to me, I'm busy!'
I was a bit taken aback since she was clearly doing NOTHING and was rather blunt to say the least. I began to ask her colleague and suddenly she butted in saying she hadn't seen them (but in a really brash way as if I was some kind of simpleton). I thought she was busy?
I didn't say anything since they were effectively doing me a favour by answering but I do wonder if there is any management or training at all in these places. Everywhere I worked an incident like that would lead to disciplinary, but in Co-Op it's a regular occurence and seems to be deemed acceptable by the lack of consequence.0 -

They're a big convenience store round here. It's either a 10-15 minutes walk to the co-op or 3 miles to Asda/Sainsburys. Coop prices are only competitive if you have to take into account a car drive to the big supermarket when you need to pop-out for one or two items.
In Hull near where my wife works the local chain converted to Sainsburys and Tesco built a small local. The Coop died.0 -
My Goodness!
I work for the Cooperative now after they took over Somerfield, we have yet to eb re branded as a store but will soon.
Can't believe some of the comments on here, staff who are that rude! I would have them up in the office and probably suspend them if they spoke to customers like that, also about the OP, i would have called the manager down and shouted at them in front of their customers, in my shop if theaisles were in that state i'd have staff members ont their hands and knees to sort it out, i can't believe that somes people give retail staff such a bad name, there are some of us who work really hard to make sure that customers don't have to deal with incidence like these. I hope that there are some people out there who appreciate that not all Cooperative staff are as inconsiderate as this.0 -
Hey ecoelle,
I have worked in retail for 6 years so totally get how you feel. Unfortunately Co-Op needs to realise that it's the bad experiences that stick in people's minds.
I think a bit more stringency in interview is needed to be honest, since most of the rude ones I've come across seem to be naturally pre-disposed to be that way, rather than someone I caught on a bad day. You know, a 'type'.0 -
Oh i know the type, i am i charge of the interviews and inductions for my store, as well as dealing with disciplinary and exit interviews. The majority of people who i interview are lovely, but there are some who i know straight away that they just are not the right personality to work in retail (at least not while i'm in management there!) You can't always get it right, but i think out of the 50 staff in my store there are about 2 who i personally wouldn't have employed had i been inn the position i am now when they were interviewed.0
