Co-Op Chaos!

Options
I am outraged!Having just paid a vist to the Co Op local to my girlfriends house, the entire store was a minefield of packaging on the floor, cages left blocking aisles, staff just wandering round with vacant looks ont heir faces, seemingly oblivious to all the possible carnage this could cause.

When we wanted some Dolmeo Pasta sauce the entire shelf was hidden behind a cage, one of the members of staff even watched us struggle to move it, yet did naught to help. Then my girlfriend almost broke her arm falling over a carelessly discarded container of mushrooms in the Fresh Produce area.

Now I know this complaint might seem a tad petty, it's not of the "Weatherspoons didn't put any tomato in my burger" epicness, but what if I or my girlfriend had been blind, or in a wheelchair? Or both! We would have surely been seriously injured...
It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

I don't understand why the Co-op is still trading. It;s been rubbish for years. Everything they sel is more expensive than any other supermarket and is usually of inferior quality. The ones in town centres I can understand as it's convenient, but why people shop in the superstores is beyond me.

Co-op have got a terrible reputation and I avoid shopping there now - the best way to 'complain' is just not to go back again - ever
  • Customer service is my local Co-Op, what used to be a "Welcome" store, is terrible. I voted with my feet and have not been back for months now.

There are quite a few co-op products I find convenient, and I shop there regularly.

Make a formal complaint to their head office stating the store in question and the time, etc and tell them about the various health and safety hazards you encountered. The management of that store needs a shake-up by the sound of it.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

My local Co-Op is great, and their baked in store bread is fabulous!

  • I would write to the manager and complain and ask for an explanation.

My local Co-op (0.5 miles away) is excellent, it's been re-fitted recently too. I was in today and picked up some great deals eg coke 6 pack on BOGOF £2.85 plus membership points (1pt per £1, worth 2p this year, so 2% off). Plus some Which Best Buy Co-op premium mince pies (eating now, lovely).

I also like their ethics http://www.co-operative.coop/food/ethics/ which cover all their product areas including finances, Co-op bank never had a problem in the financial crisis, managed ethically makes all the difference.

I love these 'What If's' :) You aren't, so don't try and imagine so :)
What if it had been submerged under water due to flooding ? *Then* you would have had a struggle finding some decent bread.
What if it had been taken over by terrorists who were blind and in wheelchairs ? Now that could have caused utter mayhem :)
What if you were pregnant with an alien baby and had to deliver it in the middle of this untidy store ? There may have been no hot water or towels, especially if they hadn't sorted the previous flooding...
But I do see your point. Not clearing up their rubbish is pathetic and can certainly cause a hazard to those who don't look where they are going.

I shop at my nearest Co-op supermarket because it's empty of customers. The car park is empty too. Just down the road (<300 yards) is a Morrisons which has a packed car park and a store heaving with customers. Morrisons does stock a bigger range but it's not always cheaper, e.g. baking flour is 10p less in the Co-op.

What annoys and surprises me is that there are never more than two checkouts open (out of at least six) and when there is a sudden "rush" of customers, by that I mean into double figures, they can't be bothered to open another checkout. Morrisons has about fifteen checkouts all open all the time.
