I need a new mobile!

I have found one I like the look of but normal price seems to be about £400.00!! Only want to spend up to £40.00. I have found the same model on ebay for £12.99 (on a police auction site). I know it will not come with anything, do not need a sim, but is this too good to be true? Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

    What is the model?

I would say it must be a mix up somewhere. Either it isn't a £400 phone or it is a different phone.
  • Thanks for your reply Road_Hog. It is a Nokia 8800, probably far too sophisticated for my use really but I like the look of it! On the ebay site (I searched for 'police mobile phones') it definitely says it is that model. Maybe it is a dodgy deal though. If you can suggest a Nokia mobile that has a camera and a radio and is easy to use and is small and modern looking I could look at that instead ...

Are you sure the auction is not for an "eBook," which allegedly tells you were to get a Nokia 8800 cheaper at police auctions?

    Be very wary Secret Squirrel!!!!

Even if the police auction is genuine there is a very high probability that the handset will have been reported as lost/stolen by its original owner and therefore blacklisted by all the UK networks (as well as across a large part of Europe). For this reason you will effectively be buying a nice-looking white elephant and not a working mobile phone. I'm amazed that the Police are even selling this handset as they ought to know better.

Unfortunately, if you can only afford to spend £40, you can forget any thought of owning this handset for the foreseeable future as it is specifically designed to command a premium price.

I very much doubt that the manufacturer is going to allow it to be heavily discounted. They would far rather cease manufacture than see it heavily discounted as it would damage their chances of leveraging the fashion market by releasing further high-valued fashion handsets in future if people knew that they could get it at a discount by simply waiting 6 months or so.

It has a 'buy it now' button next to it and the seller seems to have 69 to sell. So maybe it is really dodgy, can't see how they would have so many of the same model unless they fell off the back of a lorry! Any suggestions for a nice easy to use Nokia, don't really need a camera or a radio. Will stick with Nokia though as I am used to them. Thank you.

I found what appears to be the auction you are referring to and it is not for a phone, it is an auction for an eBook that allegedly tells you how to get the phone cheap. It shows lots of pictures of the phone and has the phone name in the title but it is for an eBook, which they will send by email or get you to download. Be careful!
  • Thanks GeoThermal, I have never actually bought anything from ebay and am obviously not very savvy with it! Will steer clear I think. Now back to the search for a mobile!

Amazing how much money can be made from selling "virtual books" in a month.

    over £3K in a month.

He has hidden his feedback because people would leave warning messages in hte feedback, to tell others.

He has come a cropper today though, look at all these newly registered zero feedback buyers. Guess how many of them are going to leave him bad feedback?

Only one negative feedback so far.

Only 2 items up for sale. 1 item is for a photo for 1p, which allows you to copy and paste the pic.
    Something dodgy going on.
He also claims to have an automated feedback system so you will only receive it when you leave it yourself.
Dont think ebay would be too happy about that either.
    Be nice
