I'm guessing "locked up" means a siezed brake caliper. Which generally isn't a service item so nothing to do with lack of servicing.0

She knew fine it was smoke as result of a mechanical fault.
I wonder how she would feel if a short distance 2 children burned to death whilst she got a lift home:rolleyes:
And a mechanical fault has never caused a fire!
Something like a starter motor getting stuck engaged is a mechanical failure, but can cause a fire because it' will very likely be overheating, even after you stop the car and get out.
The reasoning behind calling the FB is pretty sound if you ever get any smoke coming from under the bonnet, as you can already have a fire going on under there.
I suspect the FB will be much happier to have the odd callout due to what turns out to be someone being cautious, than a call out involving someone who lifted the bonnet on their car because they didn't think the smoke was a fire, and ending up with the driver getting hurt (indeed I beleive the official advice is, never try and put out a fire under the bonnet even if you've got an extinguisher in the car).0 -
Why do some of you not read the initial thread properly? And then respond with a cutting remark that is untrue or unknown?
OP was TOLD to call the Fire Brigage... so Annihilator (who can't read well anyway) - read the words really slowly next time...
Fto - well that says it all really if you drive one of those... How do you know how regularly the OP services their cars? And how is your comment relevant?
Ceebeeby - hope your day got better.Genie

Put it into perspective - if 3 unfortunate, costly, inconvenient breakdowns are your worst ever day as a car owner then you've been very lucky indeed.
The worst day ever as a car owner!
Probably 8 people have died and a 100 or so been seriously injured in road accidents to-day, despite road fatalities being at an all time low. That's a hell of a lot of families had a far, far, far worse day that you because of a motor vehicle.
Smile, in a few days or weeks you'll have forgotten to-day, many of those folks won't be able to. Broken down cars you can repair or replace, broken down people ... well you get my drift!0 -

I would look at buying a Toyota, in 25yrs of buying then have never once had a breakdown, mot failure or even a puncture and my parents are in the same boat!0

I'd say that's not much to do with Toyotacashbackproblems wrote: »I would look at buying a Toyota, in 25yrs of buying then have never once had a breakdown, mot failure or even a puncture and my parents are in the same boat!
Makes y'all pretty lucky though. The state of most roads these days, a puncture's almost a given at some point. Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Surely one of the kids has a bike you can use to cycle the two miles to the car.
Make sure your mobile is charged up, wrap up warm, remember to wear a high vis vest and a helmet for the bike - the way your weekend started you don't want to tempt fate.;)
Ha-ha, I love this one .... we have 4 bikes in the garage. The one that thinks it belongs to me has been ridden 3 times in total - hasn't been used in 2 years. When we looked in the garage to send the kids to the shop to get milk today - all 4 of them had flat tyres (probably through lack of use!!!). We can't get to a bike shop to get a repair kit ... cos we've got no car :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
