Isn't that something you take to keep you regular?Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Have make up that I have had for years. TBH too busy getting kids ready in the morning to put it on although would like to more often. Definitely cannot do without my perfume though. Absolutely love it!0

I never had any "girl friends" that did makeup when I was growing up either, so never really got anybody trying it out on me to see what would work. Tried one of those "sit down and we'll do your makeup" things once in a department store: utter !!!!!!, I was so embarrassed I could hardly even walk out of the shop.
When I use foundation stuff, firstly it usually looks awful, then I get a hideous spot for about 3 days.
So I don't bother.
Is it that same foundtion you've had sitting around for years?
The really odd thing about make up is I and my girlfriends DID sit around practising, and we were all quite expert, but as you get older you can't do the same stuff you did when you were 14/15 as it just looks odd. Where I do my eyeliner line has subtly changed, as has, peculiarly, where my blusher sits and although I still do wear bright colours sometimes its to make me happy, I know that emerald green eyehadow at over 28 only really works if you are a tv presenter.0 -

Spots are nature's way of saying you look young for your age. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

My wife did a variety of make up courses in 'er yoof and used to work as a freelance make up artist about ten years ago doing weddings and any other special events. Still does it for free for friends and stuff now. But she very rarely wears any make up, maybe just something a bit different if we go out but never really any for work or on any normal day.
I don't know whether there is a point to this post. I was hoping it would sound quite deep, but I think it's failed on that level.0 -
Can't believe how old some peoples make-up is! Surely that's not hygienic?
I don't wear a lot of make-up. I've only learnt how to apply eyeliner in the last few years too.Illegitimi non carborundum.0 -
Be warned, ladies, if your menfolk get the idea of buying you makeup for Birthday/Christmas.
I went through this stage when I ran out of ideas for pressies a couple of years back.
At first I was quite systematic, snaffling her current stuff off the dresser; taking it to the department store; and seeking suggestions. It seemed to work too.
Of course, flush with success, I got carried away. Over the following months, she would end up with whatever some pretty department store girl could flog me. It was usually a prime label, with a big ticket attached. I'd pretend it was on offer in some sale.
I'm sure most of it languishes in a drawer somewhere....0 -
Thanks for making me laugh!
Was that like PasturesNew's "mumter" comment? - get the insults in first, before anyone else can?0 -
Slap is armour.
Off course we are hiding behind it, thats its purpose.
Without a ton of make up I am the brats mother worrying about her five a fu cking day and if the dog is getting enough exercise.
Put my face on and I become a different person. Entirely focused on the bottom line, a woman who could and would rob her own granny if it meant an extra tenner in my company's kitty.
It keeps me in a job.
Naked faced, I might be a much nicer person but nice doesn't cut it in the corporate jungle.
I suppose it may be because I don't work in the corporate jungle.
I do remember the single most helpful comment anyone ever made during my teacher training course - my Director of Studies in a half-way review, pointed out that I should try to teach as "me", rather than as some idealised vision of a teacher I had in my head. It's so true - teaching is one of those things you can only really do as yourself, you can't really be a corporate clone in the teaching world.
So nothing to really "hide" from, IYKWIM.
Whereas what prevented me becoming a corporate cog was an overwhelming urge to giggle. I could just about stay straight-faced during a few weeks work-experience stint, but there was absolutely no way I could have faced talking about contracts and budgets and what have you and honestly looked like I gave a damn - for any length of time.
I don't think people paying you loadsamoney for "serious" jobs would like it if their employees kept giggling in a corner.
Luckily, I get paid to laugh, sing, jump around the room...
