You are rewired and I claim my five quid

Sorry...though you're not the first to suggest it. Maybe if we find out who it is, we can split the booty? ;)

I have NO IDEA. But not too bothered - they thank me, what have I got to complain about?...

Edit: Gosh I'm slow tonight. Sorry. Just realised it was the thanking nearlynew thing.

Oh dear, time for bed, really. :o

I'm pretty much on the ball but I'll admit rewired has me foxed
I'm not on the ball at all- who cares- we're obviously all a bunch of saddo freaks to be spending our free time on forums :D, no matter what ID we post under ;)

Oh blimey! After being very firmly a lip gloss girl for years I'm suddenly wearing lipstick again. The last time I was this keen on lipstick rather than gloss was in the mid 90s - we were having a recession then as well.

Make up is definitely on on my essentials list! :D

I've read about all those studies that say that women who wear make up get paid more and promoted more than those who don't - and I believe them. With my full game face on I am a force to be reckoned with - but without it I'm a mousey harassed housewife of a certain age who's let herself go.

I'm probably wearing more serious make up at the moment than I have for a few years, by that I mean less glitter, less shine, more matte textures and business-like looks, Less Lady GaGa pink and more gunmetal grey!

Even at the height of our debtbusting I have always put my face on. I have Rosacea so without foundation and concealer I look red, rough as orange peel - and old - and we can't have that!

When I couldn't afford my usual Bare Escentuals, Prescriptives and Bobbi Brown foundation I sent for free samples from Everyday Minerals every six months because most ranges don't do anything pale enough for me either. They've changed the deal now but it still looks handy.

I epilate rather than go for waxing, I colour my grey hair myself and stretch haircut appointments to once every eight weeks with a fringe trim at the half way mark at a cheaper salon than I used to go to. (It's £35 for a cut and blowdry there rather than £121 for a cut and colour at my old salon.) I had my hair cut by a mobile lady for a while for £7 - but she moved.

Like many of the male posters here, my Hubby is under the impression that he spends little or nothing on toiletries but that's only because I buy all the products he uses!

Just off the top of my head they include: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shaving foam, muscle soothing bath soak, Deep Heat, arnica gel for bruising, handcream for when he gets chapped knuckles playing football, Moisturiser for when he gets chapped cheeks from commuting, a myriad of foot and nail treatment products for injuries incurred playing sports, disfigurements picked up from changing room floors and treatments for manly sweaty feet, gallons of TCP, dressings, germolene, plasters. cornplasters, anti blister spray, disposable razors, gallons of sunscreen, talc and deodorant! We'll say nothing of the expensive gadget that was s'posed to file away his cheese rind heels effortlessly - but didn't. :D

You can tell nobody's buying clothes though. everyday my inbox is full of "Festive Offers From..." "40% off" "Free Next Day Delivery" "Mid Season Sale" emails from all the major retailers.

Maybe we are all buying lippie instead? :D

Fair dos on the foundation, Jacks - rosacea is a pretty good reason.

I do hope you're not right on the "all those studies that say that women who wear make up get paid more and promoted more than those who don't" - I've never read any of those studies, but it could explain a LOT.

Hmm. Feeling poor. Maybe I need to slap it on?

I suppose I do look smarter with make-up on...but less like me. Like I'm hiding. And I don't really like that. I prefer being me - even if it's a bit straggly or freckly or blotchy or whatever.

    Slap is armour.

Off course we are hiding behind it, thats its purpose.

Without a ton of make up I am the brats mother worrying about her five a fu cking day and if the dog is getting enough exercise.

Put my face on and I become a different person. Entirely focused on the bottom line, a woman who could and would rob her own granny if it meant an extra tenner in my company's kitty.

It keeps me in a job.

Naked faced, I might be a much nicer person but nice doesn't cut it in the corporate jungle.

Can I have half of what you're on ? :D

Nah, it is all mine. Half a cheap bottle of wine still to go.

If I even look like moving towards the grabbit thread, cut up my credit card:cool:

When I have tried to use/apply makeup it's just looked !!!!!!. So I don't bother. I never had any "girl friends" that did makeup when I was growing up either, so never really got anybody trying it out on me to see what would work. Tried one of those "sit down and we'll do your makeup" things once in a department store: utter !!!!!!, I was so embarrassed I could hardly even walk out of the shop.

When I use foundation stuff, firstly it usually looks awful, then I get a hideous spot for about 3 days.

    So I don't bother.
