    Redux,
When I eventually get back on my broadband connection, I wil download the windows live essentials.
Will that let me get my emails like I got with outlook express?
I have all my friends email addresses saved in outlook express and loads of things I wanted to keep.
Oh dear, I can feel a format coming on, getting rid of Windows 7 and putting back on Windows XP.
Wonder if it can be done.

Also just found out my two printers won't work on this windows 7 either.
    I have Epsom Stylus R300
. It's still working fine, so I don't want to replace it.
This new laptop is gonna cost me a fortune.

It can be done but don't do it.
Firstly the support for your new laptop will not help you if it is not on Win7.
Secondly XP is being shortlisted for updates. It will only receive security updates now.
Thirdly Win7 is certainly worth having, I run it on a laptop and desktop.
Outlook express was discontinued about 2 years ago now, it is time for a change, hopefully for the better. There are plenty of othe remail clients about, pretty sure one has been mentioned already.
As far as the printers go my canon laser won't work as I have 64bit Win7 but you will probably find that once you download Vista drivers or some XP drivers yours will be fine. It will just be that Win7 doesn't ship with some older drivers that's all.

For Antivirus try Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, light on resources and pretty highly rated. For firewall, if you're using a wireless router it is highly likely to have a firewll built in so just use the Windows firewall.

For email try Thunderbird as already mentioned. It's excellent. If you need a calendar you can add Lightning to it.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Have you tried the vista drivers as sometimes they work with windows 7

    http://www.dymo-label-printers.co.uk/Dymo-LabelWriter-Vista-driver.html

To be honest any OS has problems windows 7 has to be one of the best OS MS released for many years even xp had problems with hardware

For mail client use mozilla thunderbird its free http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

MGI Photo suite trying using compatibility mode in windows 7

in program shortcut, properties, compatibility run win windows xp/Vista

    Example

    download.php?file=b6tbx8nb6k9hi2di1ndg.jpg

I have just tried installing my Dymo Label writer again, and even though it has created a shortcut on my desktop and I can the programmes are installed, it won't open.
It comes up with this error message access violation at address 00526281 in module dymolbl.exe
How would I know if I have managed to install Vista drivers, this windows 7 is so complicated.
I am also struggling to get outlook express for my emails.
I installed Office 2003 and it sent me a test email, it said all was working correctly.
I checked on my other computer and the email was there in outlook express. But I don't even know how to find or open emails on this new laptop.
I wish I had never changed now.
  • A lot of hardware drivers don't load automatically because the hardware doesn't actually have any unique drivers for it and uses a standard,if that makes sense? Might be the issue with your printer.

E.g my pci-e wireless card, which is made by abit, but uses a set of drivers from a completely seperate manufacturer. Ergo Windows recognises it, searches for drivers from abit and can't find them. I just searched a few forums, found alist of wireless cards that all used the samedriver, and loaded the drivers from another card that was listed...

I've just tried to get my emails through mozilla thunderbird.
I have copied the pop numbers etc and the smtp off my old computer. Entered the password which |I use on my old laptop, but no emails come through, it says sending the password didn't succeed.
Oh how I wish someone would come to my house to sort it.

That's odd! I have the R200 (same printer but without the card reader) and it works fine under 7 x64, with the exception of the Disc printing - for which there's a workaround.

Thats it, I'm back to my trusty old laptop with broken hinge, but never mind, at least it's windows xp and works with all of my software, outlook express, 2 printers, dymo label, mgi etc etc.
It will only come out again when this one breaks.

Thanks for all your help, but even the simplest explaination is beyond me.
What I need is someone to do it alkl for me.
I don't have the patience or knowledge.

I bet your husband is so glad he spent a few hundred pounds on you.
Don't give up so easily, how's about you aim to get one thing a week working with the new laptop. That way you will get there and you won't have a wasted laptop lying in a box somewhere.
