  • Hi all,

We're just hours away from fully launching TuneChecker.com. Thanks for taking the time to feedback so far, it's really helped us fine tune (excuse the pun!).

We've made some more changes based on the feedback (some will have to wait until post-launch).

If you fancy another quick look, we'd be really grateful!

Still not showing correct prices although not sure on how many albums etc. Lily Allen Its not me its you for example shows £5.99 to buy on ITunes but its only £4.99. Think prices need to be accurate otherwise people could end up paying more than they need to which defeats the purposes of having the site. Think its great idea though

So this is basically an affiliate site? , you click through one of the songs -> Taken to the retailer site -> If you purchase from the site -> Martin lewis gets a percentage of the sale or a set amount??

If you go through Martin's affiliate links that means you can't use anything like Quicdo {if any are available} :)
 I am great , yes I am

Really useful site - seems clear and easy to navigate. Checked out a few prices and they seemed very competitive so look forward to using it! Good luck with it.......

Its not 'an affiliate site' its a 'finding the cheapest MP3 site' though its funding model is an affilaite one as explaned on the site. We order by who's cheapest not by who pays the biggest affil revenue (and as its usually a % of the track value, by definition a comparison site means as we're always with the cheapest provider thats lower anyway)

Also your statement that you can't get cashback is wrong. You can use the site to find where is cheapest and then get cashback and we tell peope about this in the FAQ - and wouldn't dream of stopping anyone doing this (though the savings from getting the cheapest track easily outstrip cashback on most occassions)

Yet there seems to be an assumption this site was built for free. Actually its taken many hundreds of hours of mine and my teams time - and my team don't work for nothing they need paying - as does the licence to use official chart data - servers and more. Currently its rather unlikely that it will ever pay back that cost - though I think its a good tool and am happy to take this a risk. Yet to set up a site like this as a charity would be a bit far?

To all the folks who did testing for us - thank you so much.

Hope you like the final version and we've incorporated the issues you pointed out where we could

  • well done martin & team ,,,, this is a superb tool .. to add to the many moneysaving tools you already provide .

Only this morning was checking up the new "motown 50 love" .. amazon £ 8.89 seemed cheapest ... but this checker showed hmv at £7.99

Having said that the checker says i-tunes doesn't have this .. but they do .. at £9.99 .....so maybe functionality not perfect yet.

As one of Martins' earliest supporters .. it's amazing just how knowledgeable and savvy i've become .. i practice every bit of MSE and have saved £££thousands over the last few years... and had masses of help from the forums .. particularly the "tech guys" .

BEST WEBSITE IN THE WORLD !!!!!!

THanks for that - we do have an issue with itunes that its main list we can access is only updated once a week - we have just been given potential access to a daily list which may help :)

  • To be positive first of all this is a very useful intuitive website that I will be taking advantage of.

Users should be aware however that the bitrate of mp3s is not stated and the cheaper MP3s might have a lower bitrate than the more expensive ones. This won't matter when listening on headphones but on a big stereo it might.

I'm not affiliated with anyone kids don't sweat it. You can see which sites provide the highest quality downloads by doing this: google "music download websites" and hit the fourth link which is called "music download sites reviews"

Well said Martin - it is unfortunate that with the world of free weblogs, facebook pages and other such services, people forget about the massive amounts of research, development, coding and infrastructure costs associated with developing and hosting such services.

I love that MSE is ad free and don't care that you scrape a small amount of commission on each referral - particularly when services like this make minimising daily outgoings for each user so easy.

It's been a pleasure being involved in the public beta testing and would be happy to contribute towards any future projects. To see you took some of my comments and ideas on board has made the experience all the better!

    Thanks again!

PS: Just noticed the "about TuneChecker" link under the Digg etc. links (banner, top right) - doesn't seem to be fully active... (might be my Mac again but I seem to be able to only click at the very top of the text - e.g. the horizontal part of the T)
