xbox 360 rrod

i have owned a 360 since day one of the console. 3 1/2 years. recently the RROD (red ring of death) reared its ugly head. i contacted xbox support and found it was out of warranty, a warranty that was extended to 3 years as microsoft knew very early on that there was a design, and manufacture quality issue with the console. now just using the consumer law stuff, i thought i'd give it a shot and contact MS. the sale of goods act states that it must be fit for purpose and must be durable enough to last a reasonable time. my argument is that the original design which was on sale for the first 12 - 18 months was known to be faulty and estimates state that between 30 and 68% of the original units have failed, this is well above the guidline target of 0.5%. so armed with this i fired an email off and await a response.

i decided to do this as my console was unrepairable and having to spend £200 on a new one i found that the only way to move all my stored stuff onto the console was to buy a kit costing a further £15 plus p&p. what a rip off.

thought about this??

cheers

    1) you wll have ms laughing at you, youve jumped the barrel a bit, the sale of goods act means you deal with the retailer not MS

    2) 0.5%? your having a laugh? i cant think of a single electrical item in the world with a rate remotely close to this

    3) Id give it up, you bought a poorly designed and thought through piece of equipment, not your fault, but for the price paid etc i dont think you have a chance of getting anything after 3 and a half years of use

    4) even if you did get something, i wouldnt have thought it worth my time etc when i could take the chance to buy a newer model and keep the old one for parts if required.

tell me about it, i have my original ps3 fro release, absolutely fine!

bought a 360 in the interest of choice and to avoid becoming a fanboy and its already had rrod twice within 14 months, appalling thing, i just avoid buying anything for it now as when it breaks after warranty i shan't be paying a penny, good riddance comes to mind.

There are plenty of companies that can fix RROD, just google xbox repairs. Cheaper than paying for a new console.

There are just as many people with problems with PS3, no electrical appliance is perfect.
My son has had xbox since the beginning and only just started to go, the DVD drive won't read, but that sort of thing happens on PC's and PS3's etc. Fixable, not a problem.

If its been running fine for 3.5 years you've not got a hope, I'm afraid. The 3 year guarantee is already very generous.

Why spend £200 on a new console, you can get an arcade for £150, whats this kit to move all your stored stuff for £15, if all your stuff is on the hard drive then just put the hard drive in the arcade

RROD can be fixed for less than £50...
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
