Water meter - price of units

Hello.

Had a water meter fitted in September. Landed a massive bill in November. Turns out we had a leak. Thankfully, very very thankfully, the leak was outside the property so it didn't cost us anything.

Now, I have to take regular readings for a couple of weeks and let them know, so they can sort out the bill.

Anywya, I was wondering how much each unit costs. And for that matter, what is a unit on the reading.

Here are some readings:

Wed am : 125.605
Thur 17:00 : 125.771
Fri 17:00 : 126.001

so in a 24 hour periiod we have used .3

Is this a lot for two people?

Our big bill worked out at:

Water: 95 cubic metres at 1.369 each
Wastewater: 95 cubic metres at 1.174 each

Any ideas on my readings and how much I am spending a day? Thanks all

I've just got my Yorkshire water bill and each unit is a cubic metre which costs £1.2060.

Plus then you have the sewerage charge which is £1.3560 per unit, with the number of units worked out as 95% of what the meter has read.

    So the readings you gave equal 0.3 x 120.6p = 36.18p and (0.3*0.95)*135.6p=36.646 = IN TOTAL 74.26p
  • Thanks for that.

But what counts as a unit. is it anything after the decimal?

    So is xxx.300 - 3 units, or 300?

74p a day sounds very reasonable. I suppose anything around the £1 per day is fine by me!

The amount per cubic meter depends on the company you are with.
Seven Trent is about £2.14 per m3 for clean and used.
A cubic meter is 1000 ltr. Normally anything in red is not used to measure usage but it depends on how many dials your meter has.

Say you have a 5 dial meter then you might see

00005.74 and what would be read and billed is 5m3

same would go for a 4 dial

    0005.74 still reading 5m3

No it's not a lot. We average 0.28 cubic metres per day and there are two of us, so similar usage.

A unit is the figure before the deciamal. So 0.300 is a third of a unit..

As already mentioned though, each area will be slightly different so you'll need to check your bill for the exact costs!
