Just get some number plate holders/surrounds such as http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/plates/surrounds.html I think they improve the appearance of number plates a lot. You have no screws or anything showing on the plate. I believe it is only illegal to try make the numbers and letters look different, for example using a black cover to join up two I's to look like a H.0
