My quarterly bill has been between £90 and £100 for the last 2 years since number 5 son left home:j
and my monthly dd has always been around £34. Then in Jan the last bill was amended due to BT changes to their billing cycle and my DD went upto £68 p/m and they refused to reduce it.

I am now massively in credit with next bill due in about 2 weeks. No one could explain why the dd had increased so much.

My answer has been swift (contact for broadband ended on the 31st March and changed over to Post office for under £21.00 a month and free calls to mobiles on weekends.

No more dd, payment by care over the post office counter weekly of £5.20. brill

We also paid twice the normal amount this month with no notification, it was amended after a lengthy phonecall but not refunded! Noticed though the free calls are from 7 pm as from April the first - i wonder how many people will run up a bill making their usual 6 o clock calls to family like I would have been. BT wins every time.

  • Keep at it guys! If you have been overcharged by BT, just keep on at them. When they changed my billing cycle, charging me about £8.50 extra one month, they kept telling me that they had only charged me for line rental periods I had had -- which was technically true, but the fact remained that one DD had been higher so I had paid more. I didn't want the billing cycle to change, it didn't benefit me, and I hadn't been warned. Eventually, they gave me £5 credit -- as that was more than half the difference, I was content with that.

... I didn`t just want to cancel mt DD with BT since I expected they would then cut me off
If you just cancel the DD, then you would risk having restrictions placed on the service.
However, if you were to follow my previous advice and raise a formal complaint and ask the bill to be put into dispute, then no restication will apply until they resolve the dispute.
When I got home from work today there was a voicemail message left by BT saying they would call back but I want their answer in writing , thats why I emailed them . I`ve already been down the route of trying to get this sorted over the phone and am in no hurry to repeat the experience :(

You can certainly request BT's final answer in writing, but sometimes it's easier to discuss a complaint first to ensure the response is most closely aligned to your expectations.

My experience is that once you get to speak to UK based staff, they are much more knowledgeable and helpful compared to the Indian call centre personnel.

  • SUCCESS !! :j

I emailed BT and firstly they said I was being charged for being on some calling package  I emailed them back saying that I didn`t accept this since I did tell them 2 years ago when I changed that it was to be a line rental only . I also confirmed this by email , the message obviously got through to them at that time since my DD came down at their request , to £11 per month , which I was paying quite happily until September last year . BT have agreed that the charges were unauthorised and have agreed to a full refund :rotfl:

Thank you to the peeps on here for the advice they offered x
