I have learned a great deal on this forum, but i am getting a bit fed up of reading peoples moans about bank charges and how great it is that the OFt lost. If people just want to say how glad they are cant they do it some where else! I agree it should be a discussion forum but please have some respect for people who are just trying to get THERE money back that was unfairly charged. Know one can believe that 35 pound charge for a automated letter is fair.:mad:0

I dont think the price of Armani suits is fair, and I very much doubt they could justify the price on a labour and materials basis. So if I buy one should I then be able to claim most of the purchase price back?0 -
Does anyone know if there's a filter for this thread?
1. Legal discussions i.e. on topic
2. Moral discussions
3. Yawns and rants
I'm only interested in the first option but keep picking up 'interference'.
Would love to be able to tune the other stuff out (like into a different thread!).0 -

Hahahaha, brilliant!
I am aware that this post is now interference but your comment was pure genius and I had to share my appreciation of it. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Your point is completely valid, my post was not meant to get on your nerves. Part of the legal ruling was that charges are part of the price paid for a package of services. Well I consider customer service to be included in that price, good customer service early on, when I asked for it, may, have prevented the cycle of excessive charging I experienced. I hope that the FSA is able, or has the teeth to regulate the banking industry to charge a fee that reflects the package they are offering.0 -
Thank goodness for this common sense ruling. You agree to these charges when you open a bank account.
Actually, I opened my account when I was 14 years old - have never signed another document since.
Quite obviously, I was unable to agree to bank charges then - as I was unable to have an overdraft. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Dear Mr Darling
I hereby request that you Stop giving banks handouts.
Banks rip us off with bank charges and rip us off by taking our tax to bail them out for the mistakes and bad deals.
As they say in letters given to people that tried to claim bank charges back "if you handle your finances in a more responsible way, you will avoid charges"
Let us say the same to banks and stop bailing them out
* i have this on other forums and sent it to the number 10 website*0 -
I sincerely hope not. The majority of bank account holders who manage their money carefully, budget within their means, and therefore manage to avoid going into unauthorised arrears would quite like to continue with free banking thank you very much. :beer:0

I think Armani suits are perfectly fair. Overpriced for the tastes of some, but fair. You can see what you are getting and pay the money, or go to George at Asda and buy jeans and a T-shirt.
Likewise, I can read the charges leaflet on a current account, and choose to agree to them, or go to a different bank and...oh, wait a minute, they all have the same charges. And there's the rub.0
