Word 2000 doing my head in

Know this is an old thread, but I need help with this again. I finally got round to installing the Office 2000 removal tool (after transferring all data to another computer), but to use it I had to first uninstall Windows XP (as it doesn't work for XP). Did this and now all I have is a black screen! I turn the unit on and that's all that appears. I have all the reboot discs and want to reinstall everything but I don't know what to do!
The laptop initially used Windows ME, but I upgraded to XP and uninstalled ME to save disc space.
I don't care about not having internet on the laptop, I just want to use it for Word.

    Thanks

    Hi

    Long time no speak!

So, if you have really "uninstalled" XP, which to me means you have formated your system drive, and now nothing is left, you have the perfect blank canvas to put XP and Word back on.

So, put your XP disk in, make sure your laptop boots from the CD/DVD Drive, and it will begin the process of re-installing XP, once complete, you may need to find some drivers for your various devices, but that is a whole other story.

Try installing XP, see how you go.

Thanks fguk. Can't believe it's been that long since I first posted this. Will try it on Friday although when I turn the laptop on there are no options, just a black screen. None of the buttons do anything! When I stick CDs in I can hear them starting up but nothing else happens.

Hopefully it's a bootable CD. You need to turn the laptop on, put the CD in the drive and then turn the laptop of and on again. This time it should begin to install XP.

I put the XP CD in, turned the laptop off and then on again, but apart from some hopeful whirring, nothing happened, screen still black. I then tried various other CDs (operating system and also the original Windows ME) but still a black screen.
A couple of the CDs (Windows ME and one of the operating system CDs) actually turned the laptop off after it was turned on with them inside.
I had taken my Harddrive and Ram out of the laptop and then refitted them last week, when I tried to follow a solution guide I accessed. This was after the XP uninstall.

The RAM wasn't correctly fitted. I corrected this, but don't get any further than my screensaver page i.e the desktop, but with no icons and all buttons ineffective. I can move the cursor around which is getting really boring!
Have tried all safe mode and reboot options (I think). An error message will occasionally come up saying there is an error with Windows Explorer, which says the following:
The following files will be included in this error report:
    c:document-1\locals-1\temp\wer1.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

This is after XP tries to start up.

That was the plan, but no I haven't been able to. I had tried to, but clearly it hadn't got rid of it all, as XP flashes up when I turn the laptop on. It's also the only operating system option when I try all these reboot and safe mode options. Unfortunately I can't get to any bit where I can attempt another uninstall.
