How to obtain a copy of decree absolute?

Hi there

I am new to this site and wondered if you could help me. My husband
was married previously and when we were married abroad his decree
absolute was sent off along with all the other paperwork
that was needed at the time. We now need a copy of the decree
absolute and wondered if therewas any way to obtain
the artwork number from either decree nisi, initial
paperwork so I could get a copy from the court. We really
need this certificate but don't want to pay loads
as it will only be discarded again once we have given it
to the relevant people. Any ideas, help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Anne

If you know the county court that dealthwith the divorce they will be able to do a seach for you on just the parties full names.
If you have any of the original paperwork then the file number will be on that along with the court of issue.
You will only need to do a seach at the registry if you dont have any of the above.

A copy form the court is pretty quick and cheap to obtain.
  • That is what I have as of yesterday done contacted court and original solicoter for copy for us we going through anullment with catholic church and need both of our decree which we ripped up on our wedding day !

solicitor who handled your divorce will be able to get it...
Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
    I have done reading too!

  • I obtained a copy form the court that granted the divorce, it cost me £40 and was wirth every penny!:j
  • DH had to get his decree absolute this year for us to get married. His ex arranged the divorce and he didn't keep his copy. He only knew the approximate date he divorced and the court where it was issued so we had to write to them with names, approximate divorce dates and a cheque for £40. It was sorted within a week!
  • No matter how much you feel like it don't rip up your divorce papers! Especially if you are female!!!
I have had to produce mine on several occasions, not one of which has had anything to do with getting married.
I have needed them for my state pension, to prove who I am when being taken on for a job (to match my certificates), Banking, Legal situations, Land Registry etc.
I have been divorced over 30 years and it really annoys me that I have to produce these very private documents.
  • I am so mad that we both ripped ours up my solicitor only keeps records for 6 years so it is through the court for me......if only we knew we needed them.

Horsechestnut thanks for info mad that we need them 30 years later!!!
