Mortgage PPI - Cheltenham & Gloucester

A bit of help required please. I have had a mortgage with C&G for around 20 years which had PPI insurqance attached to it. In 2001 I was diagnosed with cancer and have to have 9 months of work for treatment. Needless to say I claimed on the PPI which was operated by a seperate company affiliated with C&G. When I went back to work I discussed the insurfance with C&G and they advised me to keep it going and also persuaded me over the last 8 years not to change to another lender as I would have to change my PPI and because I had made a claim, I wouldnot be covered in the future if the cancer came back. I now realise that I would not have been covered anyway as it is classed as a pre-existing condition. I still have a small mortgage with C&G and am still paying PPI. Do I have a case?

Hi there and welcome.
I think Dunstonh will be able to help you on this one.
Sorry to hear of the cancer and hope your okay now.
Hopefully Dunstonh will be along shortly.

Many income protection plans do that. So, the answer is feasible. However, that is normally the case more with PHI policies rather than the budget MPPI plans.I now realise that I would not have been covered anyway as it is classed as a pre-existing condition.
Have you verified this as not all plans are the same. It would not be classed as a pre-existing condition as you had it after the policy was in force. Although it could well be excluded from future claims or have a new moratorium period to qualify for cover.Do I have a case?
Depends. There is some truth in what C&G said. Getting cover elsewhere would have been difficult for you. Keeping what you have may exclude re-occurance.but it would have included other conditions and unemployment.
It should also be noted that Lloyds group staff are not allowed to recommend the cancellation of existing plans. Its not within their remit. The insurance company itself can if you are no longer eligible or an IFA can.
So, potentially, there is grounds for you to complain but before you do, I would suggest you phone the insurance company and ask them if you are covered. Make a note of the name of the person you speak to and the time. If they say you are not covered then put your complaint in and ask for a refund of premiums from after the claim. If they say you are covered then note that for future reference in case you have to claim again.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Looks as though I might have a case as I remorgaged twice since being diagnosed and they arfe looking into whether or not a new policy would have started in which case making it a pre-existing condition and therefore I would not be covered. I have put a complaint in so let's see what happens.0

Hi Anna
I expect Dunstonh will be back sometime later to check this for you.;)
All the best. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I responded to Anna's PM but I am not sure the answer from the insurance company is correct. I wonder if terminology is perhaps getting in the way of a straight answer.
Remortgage is when you change lender. When you stay with the same lender and change deals that is all you are doing. It has no impact on the insurance policy. if a new insurance policy was taken out to replace the old one or an increment made then it would be pre-existing but if the old one continued then it is not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hi Anna, you could probably reclaim your PPI even though you have made a successful claim before as it sounds like you have paid much more than the amount that you benefited from. I have a friend that could help you that helped me to do exactly this.0
