Hiya
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem. Since birth my DS has been on aptamil milk it has really suited him and is now on the hungry version and is a settled happy baby there is just one problem he is not in any way constipated but he does not poo after everyfeed he normally passes a stool once maybe twice a day the problem being that because they are so large in volume his nappy pretty much always tends to leak either up his back or out the sides. I have tried different types of nappy including the different shapes within each range but the problem keeps occuring. Could changing his milk help i have read up and heard that different milks will cause baby to poo in different ways. I am very wary of changing brands though as he is so content now this is really my problem not his. I dont really mind just putting up with it just wondered if any one else had had this problem and what did you do to prevent it ?
Thanks
Hayley

We had this problem with our grandson sho is now 18mths old, every day he would have one , one odd occassions two dirty nappies but they went everywhere, usually a complete change of clothes as it was right up his back. We tried every type of nappies we could get our hands on and made no difference at all.
We were lucky in it usually happened between 9-10am , at least he was regular , so we kept him in his nightclothes until it happened then bathed him lol
So no you are not alone, :rotfl:TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
Hi, my baby exactly the same, only fills a nappy once a day, twice if hes feeling generous! He is not constipated and is well and happy in himself so I'm not concerned.
Its very messy tho, up the back and down the legs and always manages to get his feet in on the act when i'm changing him!!
Hes FF on Cow & Gate stage 1 btw0 -
Breastmilk poos are really runny too. Even when they get older, if they have poor appetite for solids (if they have a cold or something) and go back to mainly milk for a day or two, then it goes right back to the messy stuff. Loads of people will know what you're talking about, whether breast or bottle fed.
The best thing I can suggest is to go up a size in your regular nappy. Ignore what the packet says for the weight-range. Just keep going up a size until you stop getting leaks. The larger size gives you increased absorbency. Hang in there!

Thanks everyone i will try the larger nappy he is already in a size 3 but i do have a pack of size 4 stored away will give it a go. Doelani Joey goes every morning too and i have started only getting him changed once he has done the deed its only his baby grows suffering then.
You would think that with this being a regular occurance for many parents the nappy manufaturers would have come up with a solution by now. Neverhad the problem with the other two apart from the very odd occasion which i think everyone gets :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -

If they are anything like my boys, this won't make a difference. The volume of poo means it has to come out the sides or the top. Don't think there is enough absorbency is anything to contain it. Its to thick to absorb in anyway.0 -
It might be worth switching to cloth nappies- we had that problem when we used disposables and loads of people mentioned that you dont get the poop explosion leaks as much with cloth nappies and when we switched it never leaked out again!
I think its to do with the cloth having more texture, and also because the edges of disposable nappies are so thin whereas you have the elastic in the cloth nappies which helps.0 -
I may try the washables they are just so expensive but with him being so regular an option could be just to use them at night knowing he will poop first thing. I will definately look into it :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

I had the same with my son. He only used to go maybe once or twice a day (if that), and used to end up with poo halfway up his back, and leaking out the sides. Its quite normal. I found trying a different brand of nappy helped.0

If he is so regular it might be an idea to try sitting or holding him over a potty for a few minutes. Also it lets the air get to his skin for a little while.0

I second the washables too... Explosive poos sometimes leave the nappy but never come out of the wrap... Whenever she wears a pampers it ends up down to her knees and up to her armpits!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
