Thank you all for your advice. This is one report from a programme suggested by -TangleFoot-. It is all getting beyond my experience but it gives an idea of my many and varied problems.
The only thing to note is that the times are obviously wrong

</B>
9 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further. You should use the hollywood OS: http://nand.net/~demaria/hollywood.txt

Outputs are most software, try a repair and check the hard drive for bad sectors have you installed the latest graphics drivers for your car?

I am looking for some software that I can download and burn to CD which will boot up prior to Windows and test all hardware on my PC for any conflicts / problems.
I have seen this software
http://www.micro2000.co.uk/products/microscope/features.htm
I think this would do the job but costs £129+VAT
I have an intermitent hardware problem that is really doing my head in and if anyone knows of a free alternative it would be apprecaited.
Thank you

Can you list the components of your new rig please?
Also have you overclocked it at all?

The memory idea of running one stick at a time is a great place to start if it is 2 or more stick installed that is. If you do have 2 did they come as a pair, do you have them in the same coloured slots on the MB, if their matched they might be picky if their not in matched(same colour) slots.
Download and run memtest88 is a good tool to check out the memory.
Do you still have your old graphics card? Is it a PCI-E one, try it in the new rig also.

Just to make an evening of it I have disconnected completely the WD Caviar Hard drive and put the 320GB Maxtor back in and installed XP Home from scratch and did not get a blue screen until well after sp3 was installed plus 63 other updates. A good waste of a couple of hours and I am now back on Windows 7 on my WD Caviar

Test each memory stick individually - if they all test fine, then test the pairs of same-brand memory in each pair of slots (ie: Kingston in slot 1+3 then 2+4, then the Crucial) until you develop a fault.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

All those problems can and often are caused by software or drivers. It is effectively a new pc, so completely different to the previous case.

What CPU temps are you getting?

TBH my money is on the MB or a heat issue. Have you tried reseating the processor and finely reapplying the thermal paste between it and the cooler. You could try that with the northbridge fan just beside the cpu socket too. Does the northbridge chipset fan run whilst I think about it
It's not the OS or HD you tried different ones.
No w I will ask a question and you can think about it. Were you willing to spend £125 on that software? If so buy a new MB, AMD CPU and memory instead. I only say that as the hardware you have is about 5 years old, mind you you will need a newer graphics card.
The old 478 socket systems ran very hot and they will fail eventualy.
