Carphone Warehouse Confusion?
Today i went into Carphone Warehouse to get a data cable for my phone (nokia n96) I went to the counter and asked if they had the cable I needed the guy then asked to see the connection and took me over to another desk.
After getting the right cable he then continued to ask me if my phone was on Pay As You Go or contract. I told him I had a contract phone and wished to buy the cable and leave as I didnt want to stand and listen to the waffle and him trying to talk me into a new contract. Suprisingly he didnt try, he told me I could have the cable for free if I gave him details to my contract account and if he could ring me when my contract is due for renewal.
This stuck me as a little strange so I asked i just asked if i could buy the cable rather than go through this. He persisted in asking me if I would like it free if I just told him my details. In the end I just walked out and got the cable from Phones4U. I just wondered why he was being that persistant in gettin my details only to ring me on my upgrade date?? Any ideas?

because they make money selling your details on to all those pesky insurance companys that keep calling you0

Only if you give them permission to pass your details onto 3rd parties, but since penalties for breaking DPA aren't that server they don't always listen.
But if they have you details on record, they can still contact you when your due for renewal to try and get a sale.
But i have to say, this is the first time i have heard of them giving a free cable to get your details.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

i assume you dont work for carphone... if so... shut up
the correct reason is he was doing a "CCR" or Customer Connection reminder, basicly we ask for the network and date of upgrade and then on said day, CPW will ring the customer to ask about upgrading...
the main reason we do it, is because retail stores get £50 more margin for each person who has a CCR and then upgrades thu a retail store... all the managers have been told to push this0 -
I might have been tempted to give him my mobile number (with a couple of accidentally transposed digits) to get a free cable out of them.
