Southern Electric Visiting Sheltered Housing Complex - Clarification Required

My mother-in-law lives in a sheltered housing complex in the Southern Electric area, and a Southern Electric representative is being allowed to talk to the residents in a group environment. (they wanted to knock door-to-door but the Warden wouldn't allow it but apparently she couldn't refuse to let Southern Electric talk to them)

Now the Southern Electric rep has already lied to the Warden by saying "as we are the area distributor, we are always the cheapest as other suppliers must buy off our capacity."

I know this is a load of cobblers, but don't know the facts behind distribution by utility suppliers from other regions. Can someone let me know what actually happens so that my mother-in-law can share the correct information with the rest of the residents?

Hi Nod Nolan - I get a distinct smell of rotten fish about this.
All the sheltered housing complexes I know all have coded entry systems, so a door-to-door canvass was unlikely in the first place. It would seem that a group meeting would have to have been sanctioned by someone higher up the management chain than the warden, so the question arises, whats in it for the homes owners?
Residents in sheltered housing are for one reason or another, vulnerable by definition and to subject them to a group sales pitch by a commercial organisation, (Particularly SE who signed up my blind 99 year old neighbor for Elect, Gas & phone, which took me 3 phone calls and 2 letters to cancel), cannot meet anyones definition of 'Sheltered Housing'
I strongly advise that you WRITE to the Homes owners with complaint that your mother should not be subjected to this type of pressure, asking why they agreed to it and the value of any payments made to them by SE, and also advising them that if you fail to recieve reply, you will forward copies of the correspondance to the Local Authority and Social Services.
    All the Best
