your site does not rank 1st out of 400 million!
The site is top for the input search term only, it has nothing to do with your popularity or hits.

if i regged a domain called yahoohitwonders.com and left it a week, then input yahoohitwonders to google it would return my site as no1 ( the other 399,999,999 only contained the word yahoo so got a lower relevance score.

Good seo is about searching for tv's and finding argos in first place, not searching for yahoohitwonders and boasting that yahoohitwonders.com with some yahoohitwonders content comes first in google:rotfl:

i've lost count of people who offer SEO services and make promises ...and obviously can't produce this magical number one (or even top 200).

I'm no fan of quick and easy schemes for web business...it takes a new and truly brilliant concept and much promotion to quickly become popular. Lots of press and media attention, or in the case of a normal small business site...hard promotion work by the owner. Most new small sites can just about forget Google being any real help unless it's a local thing where people type "blacksmith aldershot" specifically searching for someone close.
It's worth noting how often MSE pops up in searches ...and the power of a link or discussion on a popular site like this.

Somewhere on an old PC I have a Cisco web developer course, I was given access to it as part of the Cisco Netacademy CCNA course. It's much more about the common sense involved in site building, good navigation, content, and very little about the coding side. If I can find it I'll put it up somewhere for download. It's very well worth a look even for experienced developers if only for the stats they have included.
