The big challenge - pay off £20k by Christmas 2010

So, here we are, approaching that time of year when we scoff extra food, do the "dad-dance" at the office parties, and start thinking about new years resolutions that we know will be broken by January 4th

But here on the DFW board, we have FAR more important things to be concerned with.......we have debt to bust, and boy are we getting good at it.

Sometimes, though, we need a bit of a helping hand, to keep us on the straight and narrow, so a couple of years ago pollydaydream came up with the "stop faffing" challenge which has developed into the "pay off £20k" challenge.

Now, of course, £20k may sound like a huge amount of money, but if you have big debts, then it is actually quite a realistic amount to knock on the head.....ok, it takes effort, but if we stop procrastinating and start focusing a bit more, it is amazing just how much we can achieve!

There are challenges for all on MSE - there is already one running for £10k in 2010, so if you are looking to pay off a BIG amount in 2010, then this is the one for you :D

Post on here your target and I will add you to the list........then post throughout the year to let us know how you are getting on - you will inspire others and others will inspire you. Put your challenge in your target so everyone can see what a fab job you are doing :T

Then at the end of the challenge, let us know just how much you have paid off, and we will raise a glass or two to our collective success :D

2009 was a difficult year, with many of our challengers facing redundancy or short hours etc, but still some excellent figures have been attained. This is not a race to see who can pay off the most, or who can pay it off quickest, it is a personal challenge, and at the end of it we are all winners (ooh, how cheesy does that sound, lol!).....but it's a fact - don't fret if someone else has paid off more than you have. Don't worry if you fall short of your target - I would be happy to bet that at the end of it you will still have paid off more than you would have done without the support from these boards.

So, all that remains is for me to say........are you up for it?

:D

    I'm in

My debt will be gone soon (March 2010) so my goal is to
    1) pay off £4k of debt
    2) make £16k in savings for a buffer and work on the flat.

It's going to be hard what with a wedding coming up but I am hoping that with my OH's income, this will be managable.

  • Hey, shiny new challenge :j

Can you add me, please hypno?

I've spent two years on this challenge, alternating between sulking, moaning and faffing around .

Not any more - put me down for the full £20,000 (ish) please.

    Good luck everyone.

  • Woohoo, I'm in for this beauty! I have updated my sig to show a dirty overdraft on my current account but my signature reflects everything - and it shall be gone by Xmas 2010.

Therefore, please put me down for £12,199 - and hopefully I can do this and have a nice holiday at the end of the year with the savings that I intend to also have. The debt is the priority though! :D
  • Sorry Hypno, please put me down for 13k.
    Fank yooooo
