Not strictly a Grabbit, but this is a popular board so a good place to get coverage:

  • I was in my local Borders yesterday, and it totally gone down the pan. I guess the staff have given up. They were selling some weird stuff too... a whole display was dedicated to doll jewellery holders.

I was wondering what had happened to Barders- I went to the Tottenham Court Road store a month ago- looked seriously dead, half the books reduced, the rest damaged or full priced uninteresting books. Sofa chairs still there, students chatting still there, shoppers, gone. I thought they were having a revamp- wonder what went so badly wrong- 5 years ago it was a very different story!

This is terrible news since 80% of Waterstones stock is disfigured and unbuyable. They have black marks two-thirds up the inside edge. I will not spend £7.99 or £8.99 on a brand new book that is marked. Borders is the only bookshop left in my town that has a wide range of buyable stock.

So can anyone confirm if there's some good bargains to be had at Borders stores at the mo?

    Cheers,

Funny you should say that, but everytime we go shopping down to Silverlink, if we pop into Borders, its generally to go upstairs for a coffee at SB. After that we usually have a look around, but 'Borders' is never the main reason we go in there.
