Iphone 3G or 3GS?

Iam interested in getting the iphone on Orange and was just wondering which is the best one to go for?
Is the 3G version ideal to start or should I go for the 3GS 16GB which is said to be much faster?

This is more of a personal opinion rather than a technical one, but I was in the same situation a few months ago. In the end I went for the 3GS more for the reason that I was spending a lot of money on a gadget, so I wanted it to be the 'latest' model (seems a bit silly typing it, but it made sense in my head!).

From day to day use, there isn't a great deal of difference. I guess it depends what you use it for. The 3GS has an autofocus camera & video recorder & compass. The speed of the phone is faster, but not significantly (in my experience).

Asthetically, the volume button is different I've been told.

Apart from that, its down to personal opinion.

3GS, noticeable speed difference between operating the 3G and 3GS....

I agree with Watcherman, I have the 3Gs - without a doubt noticeable diference in speed between 3G & 3GS as a family member has the 3G. If your going to tie yourself down inside a contract, dont settle for second best.

Best thing to do is goto youtube & search "iphone 3g vs 3gs", and it gives you several videos of speed tests, such as loading the same game, booting up.... etc. one video I seen.. boot-time for 3G was 45seconds, 3Gs was 16.3seconds. However, it does depend on alot of factors regarding boottime, like what software you have on the phone.. well I will stop rambling on.. but seriously... youtube! :-) cheers

Bare in mind that rumours are that Apple will be releasing their new handset in June '10, my contracts up a few months before that but I'm going to hold out and see what happens. Last thing you want to do is spend hundreds of £'s on a 3G S for it to be out of date in 6 months!
