Ohhh almost at the bottom of the jar from last year... cos people keep 'asking' for a bit of their own. Will make a batch once kitchen fitted (almost finished just floor to grout and units to go in am sooo excited). use any extra to make lime curd (double the number of limes for lemons). got my last lot from the market £1 for about 40 limes what a bargain.
Possibly a bit more expensive making your own but with things like lemon curd etc you know exactly whats gone in it and there are no bad additives and can change the recipe to suit your taste0 -
update ... my oldest son just found the pickle stash, opened a jar & tried it
he's a big curry & accompaniements fan & has declared that it 'kicks Patak's **s'
so a huge thank you to newleaf for the excellent recipe :Tocemeer wrote:Possibly a bit more expensive making your own but with things like lemon curd etc you know exactly whats gone in it and there are no bad additives and can change the recipe to suit your taste
some so-called 'lemon curd' out there is just lemon flavoured cornflour paste, vile :mad:0 -
Hiya I would love to make this but can I have the quantities to make 2 jars please? Also not sure what the quantities would be in grammes but will use an online converter...MFW #185

Thanks for bringing this thread up. Going to keep an eye out for cheap limes now. Got everything else in the cupboard.0 -
has anyone made this recipe without the Asafoetida as I live in France and would love to make this but spices are hard to come by.0
-
Anybody? Thought I'd bump this just in case anyone could help?0
-
Try Googling with "asafoetida substitute" It does seem that this spice is one of a kind but I do find this type of search useful with other spices.0

Can anyone tell me how many jars I'll need in advance for the original recipe?
Also, do the limes go in the jars with their skins on?
Finally does this produce a smooth pickle (as the jars normally have bits of green pepper in - if doing this would you add these cooked)?
Many thanks in advance0 -

Funny that this thread should rear its head again! I was walking through my local market last week and they had really good quantities of limes in the £1 bowls, and I thought - must look up that lime pickle recipe on MSE...
