Free Internet Access????

I have had what I think is a cunning idea. I am registered with 18866 and so pay 1p per call to UK numbers.

I have visited https://www.saynoto0870.com and see that there are lots of ISP dial up numbers listed showing what the normal UK telephone number is.

So I was wondering is it possible to register for a PAYG account with these ISPs and change the dialing number to the UK standard number with 18866 infront of it?

I have tried doing this with TESCO however it is constantly engaged? Maybe because they have additional lines for the 0870 number and not the standard number.

Anyone else tried this or have any ideas? :o
if i had known then what i know now

Are you sure Gary? I see a lot are listed as Technical Help, Network status etc. But some do say ISP Dial Up next to them.

So is this not the connection number, the 0870 number listed seems to correspond to what the computer dials for a connection.

    Maybe I'm wrong!

    ok,
just try dialing the numbers, if it rings, its a voice line, if you get a modem noise, yes its the internet.

but iam sure that the numbers are voice lines.
they was some messages about being able to use 18866 as isps do have normal numbers for internet access. if you say you are going abroad and wish to check you mails. they may give you a number to dial in to.
i did see a list of such numbers once. which will allow you to do it.
