hello
quick question.
Some really lovely person has shattered the wing mirror on my daughters little car. It will probably cost more than the car is worth to get it replaced:mad:.
Is it legal to drive until we get her a new one?

many thanks to any who know the answer

It is, strictly speaking, a legal requirement to have a driver's side wing mirror. But you'd have to be pretty unlucky to actually be pulled up for it ( it would be an MOT fail item, though ).

The cheapest way would be to pop down to your local scrapyard, odds on they'll have one available. Depends a lot on the car, and whether it's electrically adjustable, but they're usually not too difficult to replace.
  • my local scrappy will sell a mirror for manual mirror for 15 quid and electric for 30

    what car is it

is it just the glass or the entire thing

wow, thanks for the quick, helpful replies.
Its just a little old micra, nothing fancy or electric about it. Its the whole thing, smashed and left dying on the ground.
I will def try a local scrap yard--not something we've had to do for a very long time ( how I do love the company car!).

It also seems to have wrenched the part of the door that the mirror is attached to--if you see what I mean, not sure that there is much left that I can attach the mirror to, at least not in exactly the same place. Will that fail the MOT? I'm guessing YES, so is there anything I can do about that?

    Many thanks from the Rats

Just being a pedant for a moment, it is a door mirror, not a " wing mirror ".;)

Same has happened to me recently - well dh was driving lol.

Check out Ebay! We've found the casing from there, and also ordered the glass bit too. Much cheaper than a new one. You just have to be a bit lucky!
  • Halfrauds sell generic stick on ones that will suffice for that type type of car, only about £5 last time I needed one.

True enough, but how anyone could drive a car without an offside mirror escapes me:confused:.

Eb is correct, trip to scrappy needed;)
