Best cooling mat for notebook?

I have a Dell inspiron 1150 and it keeps shutting down because its overheating.
I dont use it on my lap (it was burning my legs!) so now have it on a piece of worktop but it is still overheating.
Someone told me to get a cooling mat for it. I dont want to spend too much money as i dont have much.
Any suggestions for a cheap but effective cooler?

A no cost option.
Take your peice of work top and cut some holes in it. either under where the fans are at a minimum or cut out the full section undernieth remembering to leave the bits where the feet are.making a larger area for the warm air to be and move arround more it will make a diference. another thing you can do is to drill holes from the edges to the hole you have cut out to allow more warm air to escape.
Most laptops have a small amount of space under them for air to move but it isnt really enough. The fact that wood also retains alot of the heat it absorbs from the laptop it doesnt really escape and the laptop just gets warmer untill it crashes or shuts down. also make sure the air vents arnt blocked with dust, if its out of warrenty open it up and clear even more of the dust out.
if you want an actve cooler then dont buy one of the chaeper plastic ones again plastic doesnt cool down very quck the alloy ones are better.0 -

Thanks for all the replies. Think i'll go for the one on ebay. Just a quick question (a girlie one that you'll no doubt laugh at!) it says they get the power from the usb port, isnt that where my internet line goes in??? How will i stay on the net and cool it at the same time? Or is it one of the empty ports?

Well what you can do is use another port a spare if you have one or buy a powered usb hub or some cooling pads come with usb slots, mine had 2 slots.0
