PPI Advice Needed

Hi, Have just received a letter back from First Plus telling me they need a further 7 weeks to investigate my PPI reclaim. This is after the 8 weeks initial period has expired-to the day to be exact. They have offered for me to contact the ombudsman if I should choose in the mean time. What should I do? Should I ride it out, offer to take a refund minus the 8% interest, call them to ask why its taking so long? Any advice greatly received from members in a similar situation

    Hi there Dave.

This is entirely up to you, but please be aware even with the FOS can take some time.
Basically your entitled to take your complaint to the FOS just as long as the 8 weeks have passed, and as they have got back even though with no affirmative decision yet, but to let you know this will take about 7 weeks, it maybe you could still hear sooner than this.
FirstPlus do have a huge number of complaints to deal with, and also with refunds as well, so a possible backlog then.

However, the decision is yours from here now, hopefully they will come back with the result your waiting for, I do hope so, wishing you luck with this Dave, and please keep us posted.;)

  • Hi di3004,

    Firstly, thankyou for your reply.

Contacted the FOS this afternoon and lodged the complaint formely with them. Got forms now to fill in etc. They say expect to here a result either for or against from them in 6-12 months as they are deluged with work at present.
Read somewhere on the site the FOS uphold 99% of claims against FirstPlus which is reassuring but to have to wait so long is frustrating especially when you read of people successfully claiming with one letter in a few weeks-luck of the draw I suppose.
Seriously contemplating ringing FP to ask why the delay, suppose they are under pressure from everyone else trying to claim.
Anyway, will let you know of any happenings as you seem to be a regular on the forum. If you know of anybody else past or present who has the same situation as myself at present I would be glad to here of the outcome or progress of their claims

Good luck with this Dave, hopefully by the time yours gets to the Adjudicator it will be straight forward and that you will be successful in the early stages.
    Your very welcome Dave.
Look forward to hearing the outcome.;)

    Hi Sunny,
Don't know if you are aware but you must put in your complaint to the FOS within 6 months from the date of your first complaint letter to the bank otherwise the FOS will not look into it.
As for my own case against Egg for single premium policy added to loan , currently has been with an ajudicator for 6 weeks, spoke to him yesterday he said a preliminary decision has been made in my favour ,but this could change, so not celebrating just yet , he said we now have to wait for Egg ,digusting as they have had since February to sort it but have done what they do best NOTHING !!!! but will get there in the end.
Well done to all the winners only wish I had more time to contribute more to this fabulous site, keep up the good work Di and co.

Hope they sort your Egg one out soon. It should not be much longer if its with an adjudicator and doubt Egg will put up a fight. ;)
  • Cheers for that, just made me nervous when the ajudicator said that the preliminary decision in my favour could change, just have to wait and see i suppose ,should be a tidy sum if I do win 3k ppi premium plus added interest from 2004 , would certainly help clear a few debts and the rest of the original loan , fingers crossed.

First plus said they needed another 4 weeks for mine past the 8 week deadline. I decided to wait and see what they said. After 2 weeks I got a letter and they had upheld my complaint so Im quite glad I didnt go down Ombudsman route hastily.
