O2 problem...help please?

Hi,
I have a phone on o2, the contract has always been paid by my mother. I started taking over payments a while ago, when they kicked me out, and they were all accepted.
This month some odd charges appeared, and o2 advised me to pay by cheque rather then by DD so I could contest them if they turned out to be incorrect. Today my outgoing calls are being diverted to the payment line, and I've just been told that the DD has been cancelled and the cheque ripped up because I am not the account holder.
They won't let me pay it without my Mums permission (which she won't give, just to be awkward) and they won't let me port my number to a new network. My number is really, really important. It's the only way I have contact with people, including family members who are in care and I won't be able to get a new number too, and uni.
What can I do? I have no other phone, and no way to contact people. I can't believe they've just refused payment...it's not a lot, the usual £40.
Please help?

Tell her to transfer the account over to you or let you pay the balance and get your PAC to set up your own account. Otherwise since it's in her name she'll be liable for all charges, which if unpaid will screw her credit record.0

The data protection act tells the network it can only talk to the account holder, there's is no way round that and big fines if they break the act.
As above, get her to do an account transfer into your name. If she'd being awkward, as dduk states above tell her the acconts in her name, the network and its debt collector will chase her for the money and put a black mark against her credit file if she defaults on the payment.0 -
As above. keep us posted and good luck. Your mum doesnt really have a leg on to be awkward because it will come back to bite her in the a##0

You cannot transfer an existing contract with O2 into someone elses name, so you won't be able to transfer your mum's account into your own name. You would need to setup a new account in your name and migrate the number over to the new contract, but your mum will need to order the PAC.
The account is in her name so that is where the credit check will lie, making her liable - try explaining this to her and see if she changes her tune.
P.S. The person who you spoke to who wouldn't take the payment was incorrect, ring customer services again and make a manual payment using a debit card, if you don't know the password they will still take the payment, just be aware that they won't give you any account information, they won't even tell you how much the bill is, but as long as you know how much you need to pay that won't be a problem.0
