How does your mother have to pay the money you pay her for your board to the council?
Apart from being rude, your post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!
Just to help you understand the council does indeed get involved and sets the amount of rent each person has to pay, you have to provide them with wage slips and based on your earings they set what your share is
As i said above this is just for RENT not all household bills, and i wasnt being rude just saying my point of view on your less than helpful post0 -

That is what the amount the council worked out he must pay towards his share of the RENT as i stated, the rest of the bills are split. :
If this is the case, then why do you say that it's for your board?
"the £64 a week rent i pay is set by the council and is for board only"
"Board" means food and utilities, not rent.0 -

Actually, that's technically incorrect. Your mother is the sole tenant at the property and is fully liable for the rent. However, she is in receipt of housing benefit which contributes towards the rent, yes? As she has non-dependents in her household, she is required to supply their earnings details and her benefit is then reduced according to their income and circumstances. So for your brother, the deduction made from your mother's benefit because he is a part of the household (and either 18 or over on JSAC, or 25 or over on JSAIB) is £7.40 for housing benefit and nil for council tax.
That doesn't mean that the council are charging him rent or council tax - they are not. He has no liability to pay whatsoever. It remains your mother's liability, but she has followed the deduction through to it's logical conclusion and asked the son for whom it applies to pay the defecit in her benefit.
The £64 you pay is presumably the same thing (unless you are a joint tenant). However, I'm not sure where the £64 comes from - the maximum non-dep deduction is £47.75 housing benefit and £6.95 council tax, so a total of 54.70?? I presume she is charging extra for food/bills/etc.You can view the deductions here here: http://www.barnsley.gov.uk/bguk/Economic_Finance/Housing%20and%20Council%20Tax%20Benefits/Benefits/Housing%20and%20Council%20Tax%20Benefit%20Non-Dependent%20Deductions.htm
The short answer to your question is that if your circumstances have changed, your mother needs to inform the council within 1 month of the change in order to have the amendment made to her benefit from the date it occurred. The deduction for you will then fall to £7.40 whilst you are on JSA. If she does not inform the council, the change will only be actioned from the monday following the date she notifies them. However, the responsibility will be hers, not yours, to inform the council, as the claim is hers.0 -
