Ebay - how can I tell if this is a scam?

This item on ebay is exactly what I want - but very low priced.
I'm new to ebay - never purchased before. How can I tell if it is a genuine sale - and will PayPal protect me?

They've bought a lot of 1p ebooks to build up feedback, so I wouldn't trust them

It looks like a genuine sale... of a pirate copy.

TomTom Navigator was cracked some time ago. Probably, all the seller has done is download it from somewhere and copy it on to CD.

Yeah definitely looks like an iffy copy - and ebay won't offer any protection because it's under £15 in value - in other words: if it turns out to be a copy and you want a refund and seller does a runner and empties Paypal account - Paypal will try to recover any funds you paid minus £15 as their recovery fee!

Think you know by posting, if your not sure stay away.. thats my advise anyway..
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

Not everyone is a scammer who demands instant payment!

I have had to put that on a mobile phone I'm selling to discourage Nigerians in Basildon from bidding on it! Had 1 up to now and had to relist. Ebay should be cracking down on these scum. They are getting reputable buyers and sellers a bad name in the press.

However OP item looks iffy!! Wouldn't bother if I were you. Only actually sold 1 item. An ebook for £3.

Apart from the fact this seller IMO "bought" feedback by buying 1p e-books (mostly), the item you want to buy, they also bought for 1p. I know about making a profit but If I see what a seller originally paid for an item then I won't pay much more than they did.

If they can get it for 1p then maybe you can too.

  • The seller states "MONEY BACK GUARANTEE - If for any reason you are unhappy with this item then a full refund will be given".

You could have bought it then threatened to report them to Ebay / FAST for copyright infringement if it isn't (and no doubt it isn't) an original copy.
