is this legit? 25% off carphone warehouse

Hi. I don't post much here, but i've been reading a lot of the threads. I found this auction, and I want to bid on it, but I thought I'd check with you guys first.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6636786701&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

Do you think it's safe to buy, and is it a good deal?

Thanks.

I would be a little wary of the Carphone Warehouse requesting some form of ID. Surely not just anyone can use one of these cards.

back of card says 'further terms and conditions apply'

One might be 'show us your press pass'!

    I'd ask what they are.

No.4 says: This card must be presented with additional proof of ID at the point of purchase.

Surely you can't just write your name on and then show a passport. I would have thought that you would have to prove you were a member of the media.

I had been wondering about that one, too. I contacted the seller earlier today. He/she says that the ID thing has to do with the phone buyer's identity matching the name on the card. But because the name hasn't been written in yet, you can just write your own name and then it'll match your ID.

I don't think that all media people carry 'press passes' anyway.

Heck, it's only £11. I might just risk it. I've been drooling over the new chocolate phone. With 25% off, I can get a sim-free one for around £200, which is even cheaper than they've been selling for on ebay.
  • Okay, I've just phoned a friend who works 'in the media business'. She laughed when I asked her about press passes. Apparently that's just for journalists. Most 'media' people have, at best, a business card.

:rotfl: I doubt it includes SIM free phones and pay as you go phones though - probably just 25% off contract phones! Would love to be proved wrong though, but you know what CPW are like.

I'm concerned at where the seller got them from. How could he be in a position to have ten of these for sale (which is clearly in breach of theit T&C) if they weren't stolen?
I work in Media so may find out more from TCW on these.
    Can I help?

  • Ok, i've phoned the number that's on the card (you can see it in the auction). It's for real. I spoke to a Carphone Warehouse rep, who said that it can be used in any store on any phone or accessory. The only thing that the ID needs to show is that the buyer's name is the same as on the card, which it obviously will be once I write mine in!

I'm sold. The only thing is, my paypal account has a negative balance right now (due to a scamming buyer), and I have to wait to sort it out, otherwise paypal will charge me an extra £40! I might contact the seller and see if he/she will take a cheque instead.

    Thanks for all your advice!
