erm, first question, if the boiler you have at present is working ok, why do you need to change it?

if your boiler is working ok, the purchase price plus installation costs would not be re-cooped through the savings made by installing a condensing boiler full stop.

as i understand these boilers are more(energy) efficient...i.e. savings on gas used.. thus saving money.!!

It depends on which boiler you go for. An oil one I was looking at was only marginally more cost effective but over £200 more. Coupled with the fact that some if not most condensing boilers throw out a mist of water at the flue, then I will go for a normal boiler. My flue is near a timber door and the thought of that being sprayed with fine water all day has put me off.

Just keep your boiler until it can no longer be economically be repaired - by then there will only be Consensing Boilers.

Go here and compere costs of the boiler you have now to the condensing you are looking at. http://www.sedbuk.com/

But like others say I'd stick with the one you've got.

Its not just about the boiler. To get the best efficiency from a condensing boiler the installation has to be capable of the correct temperature drop across the radiators.

If it isnt then the efficiency level drops.

If your boiler was like my 20+ year old one then its worth changing for that alone, but if its less than 10 yrs old as someone already said, run it until it needs replacing, then have a heating engineer look at your whole system for conversion to condensing.
