The driver seatbelt on our Fabia doesnt wind back in automatically. The Skoda garage have quoted almost £200 to replace it as the whole unit needs replacement - we have found a mechanic who will fit it for around £30 if we can get a belt - anyone know where we could get one from please. Its a 1.9 tdi 2003 reg.

Have you tried cleaning the belt? Dirt often stops them from working. clean with warm soapy water and leave extended to dry out, then spray furniture polish onto the belt and rub it in. Like new!0

Try going to the parts dept of your local Skoda dealer - they are not expensive at all. Or a breakers yard if money is really tight.Genie

Could be dodgey with the drivers belt. Make sure the car died a natural death if you do.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thanks so far. It can't be repaired/cleaned. The local Skoda garage said there's an explosive inside just to make sure we keep the pin in when we fit it but they want £200 to supply and fit?0

Is the Fabia seatbelts linked to the airbag system perhaps? Has it been triggered?
I'd try ebay or some of the online breakers (especially the VW/Skoda ones)0 -
Not sure if its linked to the airbag but its never been in any accident or near accident. It only retracts occasionally otherwise you have to feed it through manually. Sometimes it tightens like it should and others not. We took it to our local Skoda dealer and they just said it was gone and they can't be repaired as they are sealed units and it would need totally replaced? They are normally a good garage as we have used them a few times but £200 seems a bit extreme. He told us it would fail an MOT on this.0

What's the worst that could happen?
The best that could happen is that for a bit of effort you will have saved yourself 200 quid0
