Had my 18 months old on partraw since the sad sad loss of our other 18 month od boy in dec to kidney problems. He is thriving on it! Won't really eat bones yet but working on it!
New 10 week old kitten loving it - swapped from Iams kibble (bleck) to wet kitten food mixed with turkey, stewing steak, pork and lamb heart - LOVES IT! Even pinches big lumps from big bro
FYI - pork shoulder is £1.99 per kilo in morrisons - bought a good sized roast for £3 and chopped it up will prob do about 6 days (mixed with other stuff)
Any other tips? Going to buy whole frozen mice this weekend
Is the wet kitten food complete or complementary? Are you feeding any offal other than heart (kidney/ liver)? What percentage of the diet is raw, and are your cats getting any bone at all? Bones are critical to provide minerals, especially calcium which balances out the phosphorous in the meat itself. A poor ratio of phosphorous to calcium may contribute to kidney problems. Were your two older kitties related? Eighteen months old is very young for kidney problems.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Bah-humbug, well done for starting your new kitten on the 'Catkins' diet. It is obviously easier to transition a young kitten rather than an older cat.
I have been searching for an allround nutritional supplement for all my cats. I have heard of an American product called Platinum Performance which raw feeders use and am looking for something similar. Higher Nature do a product for dogs which is endorsed by a well known holistic vet ( www.holisticvet.co.uk ) but I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has found a good product.
One alternative would be to use an adjusted dose of a human product such as Bio-Nourish from Natures Own...My concern about this one is that it contains Iodine and I have 2 Hyperthyroid cats. Hmm
For more info about a truly balanced raw diet you could look at www.diabeticcatcare.com Go to Talking TR/ College of Knowledge/ Raw food info and there are lots of links to useful sites0 -

Bumping this thread, as I didn't want to start a new one. And my question is related to the thread content, anyway
I need to place another food4cats order. Just been browsing on their site, and see they've now added minced rabbit (including fur). Mine will eat the rabbit mince (without fur) from there, no problem....But I'm not sure how they'll take to it with fur included. I'd like to give it a try, so thought I'd ask if any of you have tried your cats with it already?
If so, did they even notice?....And how well did it go down?0 -

The wild rabbit carcuss (with fur) is the only one my kittens have enjoyed so far.
Although there were lumps of fur in their water as they had a bit of a 'play' with it.:D
They wouldn't touch the beef & heart *rolls eyes*.
Because of a mad busy weekend and needing other people to pop in and feed my two they've had a weekend of Bozita wet food so that's the only 2 raw they've tried so far.
I've had the chicken mince out defrosting overnight so am going to try that today.
I ordered the taster pack so am hoping to try them all and see what they like before I re order.
I hope its not only the rabbit they like as that's the most expensive - typical if it is :cool:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
With fur! How novel.
Well I know that rabbit can cause constipation for a lot of cats as it is so low in fat, so maybe the fur provides roughage? Or does it get dealt with via furballs?
If you are feeding rabbit try adding a few drops of salmon oil, or olive oil to the meal, or letting the cat have a small pat of unsalted butter to lick on.0 -
Haven't tried the rabbit with fur, don't think they had it when I ordered. The lamb breast is just big lumps of lard, made me feel sick and I wouldn't buy it again. We've had quite mixed reviews to my latest order - chicken heart was only eaten when I cut it up and some of the pork tongue was uneaten on my rug!
Need to buy some carpet cleaner today ...

You can also buy rabbit ears and feet with fur for treats. Have to say I'd be too squeamish to try that! Especially if it didn't get eaten and I was just left with it in my freezer, or on my floors like you Fire Fox :eek:D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

I've just been looking at those for treats
It's weird....Charlie takes his food out of his bowl to eat it so I'm often left with bits of dead animal to clean up....and I don't find it difficult at all...considering I was a veggie for 22 years....(just started eating chicken and fish again in the last year)
Charlie & Harry have just polished off some chicken mince - nothing left to clean up this time :TSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Thanks for the replies. Think I might just chance a couple of the rabbit with fur sausages, then. Especially as they left me with 8kg of beef from my last order, because they refused to eat it.
Must admit, I'm quite squeamish about fur and feather. Silly, because I can handle any meat. I could squelch liver through my fingers and wouldn't bat an eye lid....
I started feeding ferrets on a raw/whole prey diet over 2 1/2 years ago, and have conquered a few things in that time....I even managed to gut a wild rabbit last year, and if you'd have told me that I'd be doing it a year earlier, I'd have said you were crazy. Mind you, I did do it outside, wearing rubber gloves and it was nearing dusk, so I didn't get to see all the detail :rotfl:0
