Tesco & Sainsbury do them (own brand) plus John West also do them :)

Sounds like a good bargain you got there:D

We have a local butcher that sells bags of chicken carcasses. Usually 6 or 7 in a bag for £1. He also sells pigs trotters, cows/goats feet. I've even seen bags of pigs tails in there. Haven't tried the feet or tails, but I usually stock up on the carcasses when I see them. He sometimes gets bags of chicken hearts and gizzards in as well. I've fed both of those to the cats' and the ferrets.

I recently switched my two cats' (one just turned 13yrs and the other will be 13 at beginning of January) to an all raw diet, and they're currently ploughing their way through a Food-4-cats order. They point blank refuse to eat the 'beef variety' though, so that's not very MS, especially as I ordered 8kg of the stuff :(
  • £1 for all those carcasses! great price . Need to check with my butcher if he is doing those. As for the beef variety your cats refuse to eat, perhaps offer it to your local cat sanctuary? That way it won't go to waste. I am sure some of the cats will LOVE the beef variety.

Strange...my lot would not touch the beef from food4cats either! Not keen on rabbit as well. I think the idea of food4pets is great...but it is not always convenient to have to buy in such bulk even when they will eat the result!
I think butchers that chop up carcasses need to pay for the waste to be removed so I guess it is MS all round.

For those feeding raw meat from unknown sources you might like to read the following exercpt from this site:

However, according to DEFRA there have been no known cases of humans contracting the parasitic worm Trichinella spiralis from UK produced meat in the last 30 years.

An interesting point from Chameleon regarding hygiene.
My cats are all out door and I will admit that for years they popped next door for a plop....More recently I have actually encouraged them to use my own back garden by clearing a nice toilet plot for them which I regularly scoop.
Cats on raw meat and high protein diets produce less stool, less often and with less odour than those on dry food...so this task is not too onerous and I feel I am acting responsibly with regards to my neighbours.

I posted before but it seems to have disappeared!?

My cats won't eat the beef variety food4cats stuff either so I mix one pouch of hi-life (split between 4) with it and they wolf it down. They went mad on the raw when I first got it but now don't seem too fussed apart from diced tongue, diced rabbit and ox. I will just continue to mix a little tinned food in with it. I also crush up thrive chicken treats and mix that in....that works too.

Petal your lot seem to be eating from the same menu as mine...although I baulk at sprinkling Thrive on unpopular meals...that stuff costs a fortune and I don't want to risk throwing good after bad. One of mine operates as the waste disposal unit so if a plate of food is refused it gets put in the fridge for Peggie's next meal!
Overall they are much keener on the chicken fresh from the butcher, yucky bits and all, than the mince from food4cats.
Chicken hearts are a popular sneaky snack...they make a really revolting squishing noise when the cats bite into them. Eurgh.
Luckily my cat sitter is Indian and the only problem she will have with feeding the raw hearts is that she reckons it is a waste as she LOVES heart curry!
  • Brilliant thread!

Had my 18 months old on partraw since the sad sad loss of our other 18 month od boy in dec to kidney problems. He is thriving on it! Won't really eat bones yet but working on it!

New 10 week old kitten loving it - swapped from Iams kibble (bleck) to wet kitten food mixed with turkey, stewing steak, pork and lamb heart - LOVES IT! Even pinches big lumps from big bro :)

FYI - pork shoulder is £1.99 per kilo in morrisons - bought a good sized roast for £3 and chopped it up will prob do about 6 days (mixed with other stuff)

Any other tips? Going to buy whole frozen mice this weekend :)
