Stainless Steel Hob/Oven - Rust

Hi

I have just moved into a new house which had a brand new Neff Hob/Oven/Extactor Fan installed. I have been a bit wary how to clean it. However, I done my research and have been using E-cloths so keep them grease and fingerprint free!

I have been away for a week and when I got back I noticed small marks which look like rust. You can only notice them on close inspection. If I rub hard with the cloth it starts to come off but not easily! I have tried using some flash too but it does not help much.

Any ideas how I can go about getting these marks off? I dont want to just scrub them with a scourer and ruin the cooker!

Thanks

Autosol metal polish should work a treat, but if it's a new oven/house aren't you tempted to have a word with the people you bought from?

There was nothing wrong with them when we first moved in or the week after that. I have been using the same cloths on all my other stainless steel apliances (toaster, microwave, sink etc) and none of them have rust marks.

    Thanks for the tip ;)

No worries - I've used it (sparingly) on an old s/steel sink and it did a great job. Just use it sparingly or you'll end up with swirl marks!!

All I meant about speaking to the people you bought off was that if they oven's brand new, it's likely to have a guarantee against tarnishing. I'm assuming it's Stainless Steel? If so, it should be just that - stainless.

when we bought our stainless steel fridge freezer we were told by our engineer that we would not be covered by the guarantee if we cleaned it with water (e cloth does use water) because steel + water = rust!! so now we use wd40!! comes up a treat! just spray a bit on a cloth sparingly and wipe over, also baby oil is supposed to do the trick (so anthea turner says;) )hope that helps because i know the e cloth says for stainless steel on the packaging cos i bought one too but i can still use it on my windows:j

Sometimes the small rust specs are caused by tiny iron filings being on the rollers of machines in the manufacturing plant. They end up pressed into the stainless steel and when water is applied they rust.

The WD40 tip is a good one, I used to maintain stainless steel equipment and I swear by it, other usefull item is baby oil, never used it myself but my friend is sheet metal worker and he uses loads of it (not on himself I may add).

my parents were advised to use a small amount of baby oil to wipe down their stainless steel hob/hood/oven.
