Buyer Over Paid Wants Refund

Hi all hope you can help. Just sold a second hand pair of ladies boots and the buyer paid way more than they were worth. Wants refund threatening neg feedback. Just got back to 100% after last idiot. Say description misleading will ebay look into this or do we need to sort it out between ourselves.

If you described the jeans correctly then if they bidded more than what they are worth then tough luck! They should learn to restrain themselves. Its not your fault they bid too high. If you over did the description then you may want to consider partial refund. But if you described it and took photos then stand your ground. They are probably just trying it on to get some money back.

Unfortunately we can do nothing about idiots who should be tested before they are allowed to buy on ebay.

Assuming this was an auction and the description was 100% accurate explain to them as simply as you can that they set the price by bidding and that you cannot therefore offer any refund.

They might neg you of course, but if they do respond with a really nice calm follow up.

    It's boots they sold :)
I would agree with the rest of your comments, and I would definitely not refund if the description was accurate and factual.

how did they manage to pay over the odds? was someone shill bidding?

how did they pay and how do they want the refund, could be a scam

  • I doubt the OP would be on here looking for advice if they'd been shill bidding. I think it'll just be a case of 2 bidders getting into a bit of a bidding war and ending up carried away by it; and now the winner is suffering a spot of buyers remorse.
  • She has now reported me to ebay. Everytime I sell a lot of stuff there is one like this and it is usually with someone that has paid too much. Will paypal refund her if she takes the dispute to them. I know they are usually in the buyers favour?

On what grounds would they refund her? It's not against the rules to allow someone to pay you more than something's worth.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Have you posted them yet? If not I'd probably send them tracked, less chance of them getting 'lost' in the post

I have had a few people make paypal claims agasint me when they have claimed the item is not worth the money they paid (always items that started at 1p). I just stood my ground. Replied politely to their messages through Ebay pointing out that I always take very clear high quality photos and point out any major problems and the item was described as used so can't expect it to be 100% perfect and I have never lost a not as described claim. Just don't let people walk all over you when you have done nothing wrong.
