Baby wants boob all the time - help

While I type this my 6 week old is looking at me, while sitting on my lap and screaming in my face, asking me for boob.
I finding it very difficult to do anything apart from have her on the boob and go on the laptop, which I have pearched on the sofa arm.
She has a feed, I wind her, she then goes back on the boob and falls asleep, I put her down and have about 10/15 minutes before she wakes up and starts demanding. More often than not she just lays there with her mouth around it, with the occational suckle.
I have tried leaving her to cry for a while, making sure she is dry, fed, giving her cuddles first, but no, the only thing she wants is boob
Anyone had this issue and overcome it?

We used a dummy with all 3.
If you are SURE she is not hungry you could try it. She may just be wanting to comfort suck in which case a dummy would let her do that and you can get to go to the loo
Although, they do have a bit of a growth spurt at this age so if it is a new thing, she may just be hungry and trying to 'up your milk supply'.
Come over to the parenting thread, lots of mums on there who are BF (and our resident BF advisor) and can offer advice and hugs.0 -
It sounds like one of two things
1, she isn't getting a full feed, so isn't satisfied. If she drops off, wake her up and encourage her to continue.
2, If this fails she is just sucking for comfort so get her a dummy to stimulate sucking. This might actually improve her sucking so she will feed more efficiently.

I found a newborn dummy really helped. I know lots of people dont like them, but I was exhausted and wasnt prepared to listen to her crying when i knew all her other needs had been met. I found the comfort of the dummy sent fer to sleep and soothed her fine
Good luck0 -
sounds like she is only getting the foremilk which is thin and more watery than the hindmilk which is the richer creamier milk that fills them up.
Both let her fall asleep after a few minutes feed. Tickle her feet to keep her awake and sucking so she gets the hindmilk as well0 -
Both should read Dont0

My eldest was a comfort sucker. I used to feed him, let him drop off and then switch over and stuff the dummy in when he wasn't looking
. Worked for me.

It is just a recent thing, she used to just be like it in the evenings when she would need to 'cluster feed' before bed, but now it is all day.
She has a dummy that she happily takes after her last evening fed and suckles that before she falls asleep in her crib. Thankfully she has a good bedtime routine now and sleeps through from 10pm-6am. She seems clued up on the dummy during the day, she will suck it a couple of times, looks at me in dissgust, starts crying and just wont have it.
I think she is getting the hind milk as I followed the HV advice to keep her on one boob for a feed instead of swapping her half way through. I also think this is the case as my poor boobie is left as a saggy spaniel ear, while the other is big and pert :rotfl:
Maybe she is having a growth spurt then and I should just ride with itBest Comp wins[/B]: , Holiday to Las Vegas worth £3K, £200 shoes, £130 ASOS voucher, £150 River Island Voucher, £100 Toni & Guy Voucher, £250 Red Letter Day Voucher, Holiday to NYC[/COLOR]0 -
she might be having a growth spurt then.
My youngest seemed to spend the whole of his first 18 months with his head up my jumper.
You could try feeding her for 20 minutes each breast before putting her down for a nap and hope that fills her up for longer.0 -
Hi op...it sounds as if she could be having a growth spurt. Breastfeeding is hard work but so worth it! I have 4 daughters and they were all breastfed and never had a bottle. It was hard going at times, but so rewarding. Things do settle down, but i found with my girls that they always fed frequently. Keep going

Hi, I personally don't like dummies and my daughter never had one, but I felt like reaching for one now and again! My nan gave me some advice though as my daughter did the same as yours, she said that if baby kept falling asleep while feeding, to press on her ear between finger and thumb to keep her awake while feeding. Then once she had "taken her fill" she would sleep a lot longer. However, they often like being there for comfort, so I just got used to sitting about a lot!!0
