Don't bank on it - plenty of people have no clue how fast or slow their connection runs (how else would the likes of BT be the biggest ISP in the country) and could be tempted away by the likes of a bundled calls package or some other irrelevant tat that works out 5p a fortnight cheaper in exchange for a 2 year contract signed in blood.

And there was me thinking that all of us 02 LLU customers were discerning buyers...

You can sign up now if you have the number. By the sound of you don't need to wait for a MAC.

If the line's not active until the Monday, then it'll be Wednesday before he can sign up becaues the number wont appear on the ADSL database until min 24hrs after acativation.
When BT changed my account over last month, even tho I kept the same number, what I said above is what happened to me & is the same as when I worked for Sky BBand Tier3.

well i emailed o2 about it, waiting for a reply

i guess even if i don't get the 3 months free with cashback it works out as £11.60 a month for the top package, can't really feel too bad about that

Here's a link to the BT ADSL Checker-

It's basically the same as what's used by every ISP.

Just put the number into the 02 checker on Sunday, if it doesn't recognise it, you can't sign up until it does. Just pre-reg instead to reserve the 3 month offer.

As well as being an excellent product it's also very cheap with all the various cashback and free months offers. Even the most technically challenged are capable of seeing that the £18 I paid for 2009 is hard to beat but may be tempted away to somebody else offering incentives rather than stick with O2 at £120 for the year (or £180 with no associated mobile phone).

I thought that the cashback offers would peter out but I only got 3 months free + £75 back last year on Premium and it is 3 months + £100 now. Don't forget that they have to pay BT £40-£50 to connect your line up to their kit too.

bt already gave me the number that the line will have, can i just sign up on sunday night?

it's not like they'll actually do anything before the line has been connected on monday morning anyway is it?
don't do this - incase bt change the number at the last minute then you will have a problem

The DNS issues affect both Be and O2 - opendns is one solution

They will probably extend the free offer or put something similar in its place

apparently so yes, the reply from o2 -

"Thanks for emailing us about the o2 home broadband connection. I'll
surely help you in this matter.

I'd request you to provide me with your BT landline number then only
we'll able to see what we can do for you. About the offers, they keep
coming again and again. So, you needn't worry about it."

not sure what he's going to do with the number since it will mean nothing at the moment and i told him the line isn't being installed until monday but there you go

it would be nice if they could just tell me if the offer will still be on and not have to worry about it, they're letting people register for the damn thing after the date anyway

Why don't you just do what has already been suggested and pre-register? Then it doesn't matter if the offer closes on 30/11 or not.
