I tried to use my scottish notes to pay for a hilton hotel bill in Paris 2nights ago. The manager said my money was NOT sterling and he could not accept it....the scally. I wish i shower him it was sterling and told him it was illegal not to except it. I had to put it on my credit card which i did not want to do :-( Maybe there is away they could make the engish and scottish notes look more similar whilst maintaining there own identities??0

Would he have taken any British currency? I would have thought that, being in Paris, only Euros would have been acceptable. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
From the Hilton website:
(no idea why they're listed twice)Currencies
AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR, BRITISH POUND, DANISH KRONE, EURO, JAPANESE YEN, NORWEGIAN KRONE, SINGAPORE DOLLARS, SWEDISH KRONA, SWISS FRANC, US DOLLAR, AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR, BRITISH POUND, DANISH KRONE, EURO, JAPANESE YEN, NORWEGIAN KRONE, SINGAPORE DOLLARS, SWEDISH KRONA, SWISS FRANC, US DOLLAR
I can only assume that by "British Pound" they mean the currency backed by the Bank of England.
I'm just amazed that, despite being told many times on this thread, people refuse to accept that Scottish "money" isn't legal tender! Can I help?0 -
I quite like EnglandGlennTheBaker wrote:Yes, despite Gordon Brown being Scottish, I love Scotland.Something Really Interesting0 -
Scottish money is issued by the guarantee of the Bank of England gold holdings.
I E a scottish pound is a promisary note which quite simply offers you the guarantee that the Bank of England will promise to pay the bearer of a Scottish pound note the same value as --- an English pound note.
Try spending your linen bank notes in places such as Thailand ,India,Samoa,Australia,China, chile,Argentina,Mexico, etc, etc, etc.
And they will say noooooooooo noooooooooooo we only want English money.
If any of you Scots can tell me how much any of the Scottish clearing banks hold in Bullion reserves then you can poo poo the fact that Scottish money is only of value because of the power of the Bank of England.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.
