Post reported. There's no need to bring disgrace on fellow Scots by this abysmal behaviour.steve$$$$$ wrote:Another example of the arrogant EnglishCan I help?0 -
so long as it is sterling (bank of scotland or bank of ireland) you should be able to spend quite freely in mainland britain.
expect confusion
and perhaps awkwardness from smaller retailers. but with the big uk companies you should be fine  know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

I had this situation when I was working in Northern Ireland though. Got a flight in Birmingham airport and taxi home, and the driver refused to take a Northern Bank note, even though it was Sterling.
So ... I told him to take it or have nothing. He soon took i then!!
Look. Just read the facts that people have quotd in many of the above posts. Scottish notes are not legal tender. I could write £ Sterling on my Monopoly money but it wouldn'y mean it was legal.
I bet there isn't 400 tonnes of gold underneath the Bank of Scotland

Well not only too dim to understand the meaning of legal tender.
But also another bitter and twisted individual whose comments leave me as a Scot
shall we say a trifle embarrased.

Scottish and Northern Irish banknotes are legal currency in England and Wales but a retailer or individual is under no obligation to accept them. At my shop, we have been stung by forged Scottish £20 notes before so we have a policy of not accepting them unless I, personally, am on the premises and can inspect them (I once worked for a bank so I know how to spot the fakes).
Despite what some people (eg steve$$$$$) think, there is not some sort of anti-Scottish/Irish discrimination going on but with 3 different issues of Scottish notes and 4 Northern Irish, it is very difficult for staff to know which ones are real. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -
to settle an argument here if you have Scottish bank notes and you are in doubt about it then just send me all your Scottish notes and i will dispose of them at my local shop who has no problem taking them and i'm sure my bank manager will help me deposit them into a nice high interest savings account.

How is it that Scottish shops are apparently able to cope with ALL the different kinds of scottish notes (be they fake or not), but english shops have a difficulty with it.
We (scottish folk) have been able to cope with it fine, but are made to feel that we should have to use a currency exchange to get english notes before crossing the border. Why?
After all this is time it should not even be questionable as to whether Scottish notes can be used in England. Yes they are acceptable and we should not be made to feel foolish when handing over our Scottish cash in English shops."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." holy cr*p, I thought you guys were kidding when I read the thread title
lots of you are either stupid, poorly informed, or both (< my favourite).
Of course scottish money is completely legal in the entire UK!
We're all still (ultimately) ruled by the same government after all, with the same monarchy.
anyone who tells you otherwise is just plain lying.
and for you 'retailers' who can spot the difference
there is none between a forged scottish note, and a forged english note.
the pen knows, and it doesn't discriminate.
you lot expect our support at the world cup , but don't want to accept our (your) currency ??
