Bank Charges - Banks Win!

Assume we adopt this "fantastic" business model.
Some customers (who get into difficulty for what reason pops in your head) get charged for a one off occurance. This debt then spirals, the bank sells it on for a pittance - the bank has to make this money back.
Would you like to guess who will pay it - thats right!! - you the "good" customer! (and all beacuse the bank wouldnt help originally)
Not at all. Habitual defaulters will have their accounts closed. Who needs bad customers?0 -

I was exactly the same as you, money in the bank good job I even lived in Thailand for 3 years. Absolutely raking it in. And then one day a very carless driver in this country stuffed everything up by nearly killing me. The chances i will work again is probably never but i never give up hope. All my money in the bank has gone, there is nothing left at all, what did I do with it? I paid my utillity bills, my mortgage my council tax and all the other important bills including food, I had no loans it floated me for 2 years. But no more
So saying you have enough in the bank to live on make sure its at least 50% more than you need for the rest of your life, don't ever count on not falling and never laugh at those you consider beneath you.
there but for the grace of God go I.
Terrible story, but given your relative wealth back then I'm surprised you weren't prudent enough to take out life or permanent disability or income protection insurance.
An absolute must for high earners, in my opinion.0 -
On the contrary. I come from a very poor working class background and I'm incredibly proud of the fact that my dad instilled into me the notion that if you can't afford something, you shouldn't have it.
We lived hand to mouth, but during all that time he always managed to live within his means and the idea of going overdrawn would have been horrific to him.
But that was 20 years ago. Our national culture now sees banks as a source of money, even if they have none in their account.
from this post i'd assume that you are around fifty and didnt grow up during the eighties when greed was good and you havent spent most of your life having adverts for credit products pushed upon you at every available opportunity.0 -
Common sense has prevailed at last !
Now, hopefully this site will return to discussing issues other than ;-
Can I reclaim this that and the other from my bank because I couldn't be bothered to manage and maintain my account properly !
You sure about that? This covers workers being made unemployed acoss the country with bills and mortgages/rent to pay.
It's not always a case of 'want now, pay later'.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

We've been arguing this on three threads with 1000's of replies but still they don't quite grasp it..... you'd be better banging your head against a brick wall - in fact the same brick wall will probably have more sense than some of these guys that spout their rubbish and think they are 'perfect' :wall::wall::wall:
You know, all these redundancies and businesses going bust - the staff there just asked for it to happen, right? No figure!2010 - year of the troll

Bitter, twisted - and also now a loser.
Result of this crusade was the best for people that can control their finances.0 -

"That can" being the operative two words here. That are able, within their power, to control their cash flow system.
This outcome is not the best for people with no job/regular income.
I am not in such a negative position, but feel eager to set this argument on a unbiased level.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Bitter - no, a realist more like....
Twisted - no, that's you with your smart arsey post that had no relevance other than to attempt to gloat (didn't work though did it)
Result of this 'judgement' is that now we can try again and this time win, successfully by applying for clarification on the correct process in particular regs 5 & 8 - not Reg 6 (which was apparently always flawed, in hindsight)....
So while you sit there coming up witha witty answer, just remember soon enough i'll be laughing my tits off cos you'll be paying for banking so the 'irresponsible' people that were made redundant etc can get out of paying for an 'unlawful' charge that should 'never' have been added in the first place.....

I refer back to my earlier post....you have to live within your means. If one is on just job seekers allowance then make do with what one has - sell off the house, car, tv, mobile etc. etc. Get a min paying job at macDs and make do with what one earns...the options are there. Borrowing is not a right!0
