anyone who has one charge and has been on a holiday in the last 5 or 6 years is a peice of scum in my opinion. i have had no holidays in that time, because i couldn't afford to. i have also had no bank charges. i realise the world doesn't owe me anything!

stop trying to live like wayne and colleen!!!

In your opinion... In my opinion....!
  • Presently I'm fortunate enough to avoid bank charges, but I appreciate that mine and anyone's circumstances could change suddenly at any time to make this much more difficult.

Yet in principle the ruling is correct, as everyone has signed up and accepted the terms, so for people to be instantly relieved of all charges incurred would have been wrong imho.

However, the charges have always been blatantly extortionate, and I think it would have shown a bit of willing and common sense had the ruling allowed all debts to be, say, at least halved.

So best of luck to all affected, especially considering the amount of time this has been hanging over you, and perhaps pop into your local branch to see if some common sense (a big ask, I know) agreement can be reached.

your Comment is probably the most grown up and fair comment i have read all morning, thanks J
  • An arranged overdraft is designed for unforeseen circumstances, not for you to spend more money. If you go into an unauthorised overdraft, you only have yourself to blame (I have done it and accept it is my fault!).

didnt mean to thank this one, hit wrong button....

except, if you do have unforeseen circumstances and ask the bank for a small od even for a month or so they say no..... unless you have been lucky enough to not have problem ever before....

Look at your signature - oh, and lighten up! :j

Just edited my last post because I realised what you meant... :p

No need to lighten up though, i'm already cool as a cucumber :D just trying to add balance to the debate but it seems balance is not what is wanted and anyone that tries to do that is either perfect, holier than thou, on their high horse, trolling, gloating etc etc

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • To all those majority who want free banking. You all have had free banking, thanks to those who pay charges when they go over the limit.

Because if the banks pay back the excess charges you loose free banking. The overdraft charges funds the free banking.

No one disputes the charges, it is the excess amount they charge that is disputed.
  • You're either in favour of fairness or not. We now know where the court stands. If ever there was a time for a riot, it's now.
  • I had to sign up just to express my outrage at the single minded tw@s that are mincing around this thread telling us how those of us that have incurred charges are farm animals that should be punished for our inability to handle our finances.

It's like this: None of us are claiming that we should never be punished for not having enough money at the end of the month, after daring to pay our rent, feed ourselves and our children, tackle the bills, and foot the travel costs to get to work to earn our minute wages. The point of the entire legal action is that these costs are unjustifiably high, and governed by nothing but the will of the bank.

I would be satisfied if the case had been lost in the sense that we wouldn't get any money back, but it had been agreed that all charges would be proportionate and fair from now on. As it stands, we have been dealt a major consumer blow. It has been proven, in court no less, that we have no rights when dealing with large corporations. If you can't see that as a truly bad state of affairs, because it doesn't directly affect you, then you don't deserve to be a part of civilisation.

I just can't understand the mentality of some people. Do they really think that there is anything from stopping banks declaring that they are going to charge for current accounts or cash withdrawls anyway?

This isn't about scroungers trying to claw pennies away from honest folk. This is about our rights as consumers, ALL of us. I am happy for those of you that have been so precious with their earnings that they can afford to come here and reveal their pompousness for all of us, it has been a fantastic show, and god forbid that your circumstances change in the future and leave you in the mire with us. But if you think that you have been spared from getting the !!!!!! end of the stick in the future, or are more human than the rest of us, you are ridiculously mistaken.
