MSE News: Bank charges: banks win test case appeal

If the decision had gone against the banks they would have looked for other ways to recoup their lost revenue, it would have probably been the end of free banking for the majority who live within their means.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

And the banks win again! Is it any wonder when all the top knobs in this country move in the same circles that the greedy m.p.s do nothing while the greedy legal profession allow greedy bankers to be errrm.....GREEDY! I am afraid this decision makes it very hard not to be a total cynic :rotfl:0

B$%&$*^s the lot of them0

What a suprise! NOT!!! The banks have got away with it again. First they are given billions on a bail out using our money, now they are bailed out again using our money and you can gaurantee they'll start charging for current accounts when its our money they are using to keep them in business!
Suprise suprise suprise! :mad:0 -
I am a customer of Yorkshire Bank, which is owned by National Australia Group.
When the bank charges case started, National Australia scrapped most bank charges in other countries such as Australia, New Zealand... but not the UK.
Not a wonder really, it is not like anybody in the UK would do anything about it.
What about all the politicians who chirped in there piece, I wonder what they have got to say about things now?!0 -
step back and reflect...the judge ruled that the OFT can rule on whether charges are fair or not under different legislation. Yes it's a blow but there must be something that can be done if the different legislation can be identified...or am I too optimistic given the shambles that is our 'legal system!!!'0

I was at the end of a financial hardship claim with the FOS. I spoke to the bank last week Nat West who had told me that I had a disposable income of £1200 per month. Thats all my salary! I have mortage, 9 cards, utilities debt etc etc. When I objected they agreed to look again and give me a decision in 2-3 weeks. Thought I was doing well!
I guess they were stalling for todays decision!!

Please ignore those people who post on this forum who deliberately try to misinform you. Don't be bullied by them, don't be blamed by them. You know who I mean.
You come here for advice, help and support- thats what I and like minded others will try to do.0 -
Utter B@ll@cks!!!! I cannot believe what I am reading, So the last how many years for what??? Just on Saturday my daughter rang her bank and they cancelled the charges due to be debited next month. I myself have won in the past with LTSB and A&L, had a LTSB on hold and was going to go for Halifax..... I AM DISGUSTED!0

I'm obviously in the minority here but I'm glad of this decision.
No-one will win - if the banks lost they would just end free banking and we'd ALL have to pay for it.
As someone who hasn't paid a bank charge since being at uni in the 90's, I'm more than happy with my bank
If you go overdrawn without permission, you pay the fine! Simple!
Sorry - don't shout at me! I'm a big Martin Lewis fan but have always been against this campaign.0
