If I had been able to set up SO for a fixed amount on a fixed date, then I feel I could have avoided these charges, of which I'm not proud, but this facility isn't available anymore seemingly....
Standing Orders are still available for customers to set up.

  • Basically most of the people complaining sorry moaning will always do so as they go about life as a victim and always blame everyone else they forget its them that control their own life.

If you actually took a few minutes to sort out your finances and not spent money you don't have then maybe you wouldn't be here complaining that your not going to get your charges back.

I think the banks are more than right to charge people for not keeping to the T&C's at the end of the day its not a charity its a business.....

I notice that your username is BritishBankers. Its ironic then that you are telling people to manage thier finances when the taxpayer has had to bail out the UKs banks. I hope you wrote to the banks criticising them for their appaling financial managment. Do you not realise your own hypocrisy?

None of the people complaining about bank charges are playing the victim. They just want to have fair bank charges and not be ripped off by the banks. Thats a perfectly reasonable request.

I also can't believe people are falling for the banks argument that they would have to charge for bank accounts if they had lost this case. You have to give the banks credit in some ways for creating a great scaremongering argument that many have fallen for.

and when you do set up a standing order, and the money that you expect to be in your account on a certain day isnt there, see how much of a charge it is for refusing a standing order!!

That's just it. On the dates arranged for my DD the money WAS there. It just wasn't there a week earlier when they went into my account for it.

I would like to buy a loaf of bread for a fair price, and electricity, and gas, and a plasma tv.... But we live in a competitive market place and have to pay the market rate.

Where else would the banks get the £2bn+ per year they were going to lose from?

I don't know. What did they tell you? Could it be they were mistaken, as opposed to lying? Who are these people?

    Yes.

A DD authorises someone to take money from your bank account.

A SO authorises your bank to send money to someone.

Providing you know the bank details of the person you want to pay no-one can stop you from setting up a Standing Order with your bank.

Not going into detail, but none of them accept payment by SO. DD only, with all that that entails.

Premier, the bottom quote you attributed to me was itself a quote from someone else.
