Play are fine until you have to return something. Then it is a nightmare trying to speak to someone or get an email answer. If it is past 30 days since you bought it, you cannot click on the item in your account history to get a return email with a returns number.

I will use them for dvds or games, but never again for electrical items - it's not worth the risk or hassle. After being a happy customer with dozens of orders through them, I am now only prepared to use Play for things that are small and real bargains. Plus, I wouldn't touch Play Trade with a bargepole after the stuff I've read.
  • Play.com - They are rubbish. I ordered 2 items on 30 Nov and 13 Dec for Xmas and am still waiting for both. Even asked for a voucher for future shopping with them as it was the 1st time I had used the site, poor service, do you want any more custom etc etc and they emailed back saying I could cancel my order at any time and I had not been billed.

Sort of missed the point so I will never shop with them again.

In summary Play.com are a nightmare.
  • Play are a nightmare; sent me a broken case and 2 wrong CDs out of 7 orders, all of which they package separately rather than all together and don't get me started on how they treat their Play Trade sellers; I was one!!

Amazon has never let me down as a customer although I didn't enjoy selling through them either.
  • I was just checking my debit card statement on line and realised I have a £3 discrepancy.... couldn't work out where it was from so called them. They told me I had 3 x £1 charges on hold from play. I ordered 3 items last week from play, which have been paid for and delivered, so I called them and they said they do this £1 holding to make sure you have the money to pay for the item.... and it'll be available on my card after 14 days from when it's taken. I've tried to complain, but there is no supervisor available, can't find an address to write to either.

I ordered an item that was still on Pre-Order from www play . com and on the release date, they pushed it back. No email from ww play . com to confirm anything, nothing. So when the birthday present I had pre-ordered never arrived a week after my nieces birthday, I logged into my ww play . com account and the item was now due for release 3 weeks later. I spoke with my 11yr old niece and asked her if she wanted to wait 3 weeks for the item or cancel it? She said she would wait, very understanding 11yr old!

5 days before it was due to release, I rang ww play . com as my niece did ask me if it was this week it would arrive, so after I was connected with I believe a lady in India, I explained the story and she brought up the details from my order at ww play . com and from that point on, I might as well have been talking to a blind man about what he enjoyed most about a painting. She knew nothing about whether the release date on ww play . com was a confirmed date or whether that date would change. Bear in mind this is days before the release date and she had no idea if it would be released. It says a date on ww play . com but she knew nothing about it. In this day and age, with technology being so advanced, knowing the release date for something should be quite easy. A sales company such as ww play . com talks to a manufacturing company, the manufacturing company confirms a delivery schedule that the sales team confirm as well... If that delivery schedule is not in place... ergo, no delivery... ergo no stock.. ergo no need to put up a fake date.

At the end of the back and forth phonecall with ww play . com, she simply said she cannot predict if it will come out. It might, it might not. Sorry.

Terrible customer service from and ww play . com and yes... this morning, the date has pushed back another week to the 16th so I cancelled the order and went looking for similar experiences so that if you find yourself on ww play . com with a pre-order that shifts from week to week, cancel the order and find it elsewhere.

I just had a horrible experience with Playdotcom too...

I a TV from their website on Sunday, to be specific, this one: ** EDIT**damn not allowed links. It was a 46" Sony Bravia LCD for £499.99. I noticed it on hotukdeals website and decided to purchase it.

I placed my order Sunday, got an email confirmation immediately. I Got in from work yesterday evening (Tuesday) and I had recieved an email at 6am saying I needed to verify my payment within 24 hours - (I have purchased items of play before with the exactly the same details and had no issues). I then had another email at 2.40pm saying my order had been cancelled because I hadn't verified my details!!!

The email said i needed to go back online and re-order, so I tried, but it was showing at £729.99.

I rang support (they were absolutely terrible) who told me that it was basically hard lines, if I want the TV I have to pay £729.99.

To be frankly honest I am absolutely disgusted the way they have behaved. It seems like they made a mistake still showing the TV at that price, so decided to find a weak excuse to cancel my order. I mean they have my home number and mobile number, a quick phone call verifies a £500 order.

Such a shame they are based offshore or I would be persuing this via trading standards.

I will never be a customer at play.com again:(

They can just chose not to send it for any number of reasons and are not in the wrong, no matter how irritating.

I disagree. I purchased an item at an agreed price in good faith. If I purchased an item from a shop, i.e. Currys for an agreed price and then they decided to move the goal posts, I would be able to take recourse because of the UK trading Laws. Unfortunately Play are based offshore and are not covered by those same laws (I don;t think anyway), so 'seem' to be able to do as they wish.

They are based offshore to pay less tax, which means they can offer lower prices.

You can't (try to) take advantage of their lower prices on the one hand, then complain they aren't covered by the same trading laws on the other.

lol, what? I wasn't complaining that they are not covered by the trading laws, I was complaining they didn't honour an order I placed.

So I can't be annoyed/frustrated they decide to welch on an order I made? Wherever they are based, if I place an order with a company as large and as well known as someone like Play, I fully expect my order to be honoured at the purchase price.

To be honest before I made the purchase I didn't realise they were based offshore. Possibly, I should have done my research, but I have used play numerous times in the past and they have always been fairly reliable and trustworthy.
